Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!
Really great food, nice big area by the pool table for our family to eat and hang out. The pies are the size of your head and excellent value. We will be back.
We stayed in the village for 2 nights and found The Eagle. The owners were very friendly as were the locals. We had meals there on the Friday and Saturday ,the nights we were there, they were excellent.Nice to find a nice down to earth local village pub doing a good job
Recently booked a table at The Eagle for a large group on a Saturday evening. Not being local we weren’t sure what to expect, but from the minute we arrived the staff were attentive and welcoming. They took food orders from the younger members of our party first, giving the adults time to ponder (why doesn’t every where do this?! and were helpful in suggesting tweaks to the menu that would suit each of them individually. The food came out very quickly and the service was very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, I enjoyed my meal immensely and heard only good things from the rest of the group. The portions were so generous!!! The spinach by and filo pie from the specials looked really yummy and I was a bit gutted I hadn’t chosen it, I wish I lived closer as I would definitely visit again and work my way through the rest of the menu! Thank you so much to the staff and kitchen for making a evening a lovely one :
I don’t like giving poor reviews, particularly when it isn’t entirely down to the actual venue however this is a review on our visit. Ordered a pint of speckled hen ale which when delivered did not taste nice, however not ones to complain we merely ordered a replacement drink. As we were about to leave one of our party used the toilets which they described as ‘not the cleanest’. To be honest if that had been the only issues this review probably wouldn’t have been written however as we were getting on our bikes to leave a couple (who appeared to be locals) found something amusing about our group and were clearly talking and laughing about us. Maybe we hit on a bad night (and rude customers) but not somewhere we would revisit or recommend.
