Visited for sunday lunch with family. The sunday menu is always the same starters, deserts.Always the same vegetables Peas carrots and cauliflower. The meat and gravy is always nice but the rest of the dinner is drab with no imagination. The service is also very slow.
First time visiting after hearing the Sunday lunch was great. Firstly the good points, staff were friendly and the roast beef was excellent and pricing reasonable. Apart from that everything was mediocre. Peas and carrots are about the cheapest vegetables available and even they arrived overcooked and lukewarm. The cauliflower cheese also had the whitest sauce imaginable and definitely had no cheese in it. Starters of prawn cocktail and pate were quite nice as was the chocolate sponge dessert, but I wouldn’t rush back. When I eat out I naively expect a professional chef to provide a meal which is better than I can cook myself.
Friends lunch. When we arrived, staff were serving another customer, one was filling the fridge and another was flitting behind the bar... There was no acknowledgement we were there. Until I asked about a table booking. We were directed to a table, no one asked if we wanted a drink until we asked if we could order one, when a member of staff had delivered food to another table. Drinks came , we ordered food. The salmon I ordered was fine, the salad, uninspiring and the side of vegetables medley, I believe was frozen veg. It was over cooked and soggy. The scampi and chips were average.
Thank you to Kat and her staff at the Grove. They all went above and beyond to make my wedding day really special. Nothing was to much for them. Kat was absolutely incredible and we can't thank them them enough. The Cheese glazing table was a winner for our evening guests. Worked really hard. I've recommended them to everyone I know.
