I made a wedding cake, and it turned out to be absolutely amazing!
I have to start by saying that I ordered this cake on Wednesday, and it was ready perfectly by Saturday. The price was reasonable for such a delicious cake. My son wanted a peanut butter and chocolate cake, and wow! She truly delivered! I've never been asked so many times where I got a cake. My youngest daughter, who usually only wants to eat the icing, actually finished her whole piece— it was that good! I now know who I'll be turning to for all my future cakes. Thank you!!!!
I messaged her pictures of everything I was wanting for my order of a cake, cake pops, several dozen cupcakes, and two dozen specialty cupcakes. Leading up to the wedding, I had no issues with her. At our tasting in March, I explained that we live in the country about ten minutes outside of town in Greenfield on country dirt roads. I was clear that I wanted that cake, and could she not do it, that was fine, but if she couldn't I would be going elsewhere. I had already had two previous bakers decline to make it, one because it was out of her skill set, and the other because he did not have the time to commit to making it. When I spoke to Ms. Davenport, she expressed no concern what so ever that she could complete the cake. I submitted the first half of my payment in March of 2017, and the second half was paid in full in June of 2017. She received the check on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, and it was cashed on Friday, June 23, 2017. My wedding was Saturday, June 24, 2017. She had cashed full payment of $1,720.00 a day before I ever received any product. On the day of the wedding, she messaged me at 2:15 p.m. telling me she was running late. I told her no problem. At that point I was less than 2 hours before walking down the aisle, had my mind on bigger things, and figured a little late wasn't an issue. The ceremony was not until 4, and guests would not be arriving before 5. She lives 45 minutes from me, so I assumed there would be no problem with her arriving before my guests, even though she as running late. After the wedding, I realized several things. 1. She did not arrive until well after my guests did. Two of my guests had to carry the cake in for her, as she brought a 5-tiered cake already assembled. She indicated in her message she was bringing someone to help her. 2. The cake had visible cracks in the icing, it was leaning, multiple guests made comments that they were fearful that it would fall over because it was leaning so far, the decorations were visibly crooked, and there were two hairs found inside the cake while it was being cut. 3. Ms. Davenport did not stay to help even out any of the cracks in the icing. She dropped it off, and left just as quickly, leaving my decorators to try and fix it. 4. Ms. Davenport did not bring two dozen specialty cupcakes that were ordered. When asked, she indicated that she believed that the cake pops I had ordered were to replace the specialty cupcakes. The messages of our conversation of my order explicitly say differently. In fact, Ms. Davenport resent my order for clarification which included both the cake pops and the specialty cupcakes, and stated that she believed the cake pops would be a nice accent surrounding the specialty cupcakes. She even indicated I actually owed her $24 because the cake pops were more expensive than the specialty cupcakes, but she was not worried about it. When my mother spoke to Ms. Davenport, she indicated that I was at fault for the mishaps. She stated that she was supposed to have the full payment by the Monday before the wedding, and she didn't receive it until Wednesday so she could not buy groceries and start in time. Additionally, she stated that the country roads cracked the cake. She brought the cake fully assembled and stated that she hurt her back. I am not the professional, I would have no way of knowing how heavy the cake would be or how many people would be needed to deliver it, but she should. She also indicated that we could send her a check for $20 because she was missing part of the cake equipment that was inside the cake to support it. She did not believe we had found two hairs in the cake. At that point my mother told her she would not be receiving $20, but we were requesting half of our money back. I then messaged Michelle on two different occasions, explaining my disappointment in what we received and that it was nothing close to what she agreed to provide. She had never responded to any attempt I have made to discuss the situation since her last conversation over the phone with my mother.
I would never suggest this business for anything, particularly a wedding. I ordered my wedding cake through Ms. Davenport's business.
