The restaurant and ambience were nice and friendly, although our waitress was very nervous due to the expectation of complaints. The star of show food) was mediocre to say the least. I mean, the salmon starter had no taste, how can fresh salmon be tasteless? And the basics of warm food on cold plates??? Had better meals on the harvester. Anyway, you can't waste time discussing the River Cottage Canteen Bristol, as life is too short.
After we had a fabulous meal at the Winchester River House, we really looked forward to the Bristol Restaurant. The building and the staff were nice, but the menu and the food were overwhelming.
River Cottage has become a regular eating venue for us, from an occasional lunch to a group dinner in the private dining room. The combination of ingredients is always interesting without being fussy and pretentious, and beautifully prepared. Today I was taking to lunch someone I had never met before but who happened to have done me an amazingly generous anonymous service. Our meal was the perfect accompaniment to a long and interesting conversation.
We visited River Cottage Canteen for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. This was a long awaited visit we had wanted to visit the restaurant when it first opened but had found it difficult to get a table! The food was wonderful two members of our party were vegetarian and we were delighted with the range of vegetarian options on the menu which are not available elsewhere. We all enjoyed a mix of flavours and ingredients which were unusual but worked well together. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great there was lots of room between tables which gave a feeling of space. The service was also of a high standard, with our waiter being very attentive and making recommendations on the menu. Overall we had a fantastic experience at River Cottage and would certainly go back again.
So much to choose from the menu so it was difficult to decide what to eat. Loved the kids menu as it had better quality of food rather than the usual fast food style items you get at other restaurants. Wish there was one in London.
