Booked a weekend to stay here for my boyfriend's birthday, but would definitely come back here to stay if we ever needed to stay in Bristol again. Lovely room with a garden view, owners WhatsApp messaged us before we arrived to give us all of the details so everything was clear when we arrived (parking and gate code etc). Owners Jacqui and Fiaz were so amenable and friendly, accommodated absolutely everything and were really happy to answer any questions about the animals. The breakfast and afternoon tea were delicious, and the owners also recommended local vegan restaurants which we took them up on and thoroughly enjoyed!
Overall, a really good experience and I would recommend! We stayed here for our anniversary weekend, at the same time as Bristol VegFest, which meant the owners were busier than usual as they had a stall there (rightfully and understandably so). As a result a few things weren’t as seamless as they may usually be. Our room wasn’t serviced during our two night stay (breakfast plates stayed in the room until we put them outside, which we didn’t realise if we should/need to do as it said rooms were checked daily). We had an amazing afternoon tea on arrival, followed by the cooked breakfast which was yummy and a Bircher muesli the next day (unfortunately this had gone off and tasted fizzy). The rooms were clean and pretty, we stayed in the garden view room which I highly recommend so you can see the animals as they wake up in the morning! Please do bring some rabbit/bird friendly toys or foods as these are welcomed. I wish we had known! Bunnies were friendly and one of the turkeys loves strokes. Great experience. Me and my wife absolutely loved our visit to The Base! The retreat consists of a house with several double rooms and a big garden which is home to rescue ducks, rabbits, turkeys, chickens and guinea pigs. There is also a cabin in the garden which has two double beds and it's own bathroom and kitchen, and this is where we stayed. The cabin was lovely and spacious with a cosy decor. It was well equipped with all of the kitchen utensils that we needed and appliances including an oven, hob, dishwasher and two washing machines. There were also towels in the bathroom (although no body wash so I'd recommend bringing your own). There were also other fun quirks in the cabin such as a guitar, disco ball, arcade game table and a smart TV with an Xbox. The Base is in a quiet neighbourhood and it was a very relaxing and peaceful place to stay. The rescue animals roam freely in the garden during the day and we had a lovely time sitting and watching them running around and enjoying their freedom. We also got to feed them. It was just so nice to be in amongst the animals, and it made me so happy knowing that they get to live out the rest of their lives in such a loving place after coming from such tough starts to their lives. They also serve home-made food on site, and the menu includes a range of breakfasts, dinners, snacks and an afternoon tea. Food can be ordered in advance and you can have it served in your room or in the garden. Me and my wife went for the afternoon tea and it was absolutely delicious! It came with a selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and brownies. It was all really tasty and I was particularly impressed with the scones and the cupcakes, which had a lovely moist texture. We also got to pick a hot drink from a selection of teas and coffees (I went for a Darjeeling Earl Grey tea). On top of all of this the couple who runs the place are really nice and friendly, and the rooms are really good value. The cabin cost us just £179 per night and it could technically sleep 4 people! We loved everything about our stay and I would highly recommend visiting!
We finally managed to visit this lovely little animal sanctuary/B&B after following them for the last couple of years on Facebook. Perfectly situated between Bristol and Bath it is a cozy green oasis for a city trip. Quite calm and green walking areas close by-especially great if you are travelling with your dogs (very welcomed here, too). You can also order vegan breakfast, dinner, afternoon tea and have that tasty stuff either in your room or outside near the furry and feathered rescued souls living in their garden. I would recommend ordering the dishes in advance. The rooms are very modern and clean. We highly recommend this place!
