My friends and I were GPS-ing another place that seemed as if it closed down and ended up here. Very happy we did as fate lead us to place we enjoyed very much. At first the restaurant seem small and empty but later revealed a backdoor leading to a much larger and warmer setting as if a speakeasy. The seating was comfortable and the table grand as we look through the menu for a dish we were able to fully customize by the pound. It brought upon us a mixture of vegetables, meats and seafoods in a flavorful and stir fried dish (dry hotpot) that my friends and I enjoyed leaving not any room to be happier especially after receiving a very affordable bill!

Giving this rating 2* because I've only tried one of their dishes. Otherwise, my experience would've been a 1*. My family has tried Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce 口水雞 from a restaurant all the way in Flushing. The chicken there is so good so juicy and tender, so flavorful but not salty, and is a good portion for the price. The only problem is, it's very very far from where we live. When I saw that Spicy Bai Chuan, a restaurant close to my house, has their variation of 口水雞, I decided to order it and see if it could fill my family's temporary void. I really wanted to like it because I was hopeful AND it wasn't cheap!!! It just said $15 on the menu for who knows how much of the chicken they were selling. But trust me when I say this, the moment the waiter handed me the bag I already knew the portion was going to be small... I don't even know if the portion I got constitutes as 1/4 of a chicken. There wasn't a lot of meat, and if there was any meat, it drowned in the sauce that it was packed in. It became VERY salty. And you would think because it's in the sauce, it would stay juicy, right? Wrong. The chicken was SO dry, I don't think I've had steamed chicken this dry before. Honestly wish I took a picture like I usually do, but this chicken looked so sad that I didn't think it was worth a picture. The only upside to my experience is knowing how much more worth my trip out to Flushing would be after trying this. Based on this one dish, I don't think I'll ever be visiting again. For the people who are adventurous, give it a go and I would love to see your take on their other foods.
Spicy Bai Chuan Restaurant, located in the space formerly occupied by You Like Fish at 6916 18th Ave, is the latest new addition to the Bensonhurst neighborhood, serving a wide selection of Sichuan dishes think mapo tofu 麻婆豆腐; shredded pork with garlic sauce 鱼香肉丝; fish filets in hot chili oil 湖南水煮鱼; and twice cooked pork 回锅肉. The menu is extensive, with the restaurant also offering grilled fish, BBQ, spicy dry pot 麻辣香锅, and Cajun seafood boil in addition to the more traditional Sichuan dishes. I was browsing through Uber Eats looking for a good restaurant to pick up some food (as I had two promo codes that were near expiring) when I stumbled upon this place. I ordered the classic Mapo Tofu 麻婆豆腐, the Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce 成都口水鸡, and the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce 鱼香肉丝 for pickup via Uber Eats. Apparently, something in my order came with rice (either the Mapo Tofu or the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce), but I 'm not sure which one, as it wasn 't listed on the menu. Or maybe the rice was complimentary. For Sichuan cuisine, these dishes weren 't all that spicy, which is good, since my family can 't really handle extremely hot and spicy foods. The Mapo Tofu was on the spicier side, especially drenched in chili oil, but everything else was bearable. If you 're looking for something more spicy, definitely ask if they can make the dishes spicier. P.S. this is coming from someone who has a low tolerance for spice! The service was FAST! I arrived at the restaurant approximately 15 mins after placing my order (perhaps even less), and my food was sitting on the counter all packaged and ready, waiting for me. So amazed by the speed! Anyways, a few things to note: the menu on Uber Eats DOES NOT have pictures! I had trouble discerning a few dishes from others on the menu, so pictures would definitely be helpful. For example, what 's the difference between Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce 成都口水鸡 and Szechuan Style Sliced Cold Chicken 四川白斩鸡? They 're both cold dishes, so it 's definitely not the cold aspect. God, I have no idea (0.0) Also, I thought that the packaging was quite sturdy they double bagged everything with a brown paper bag followed by a clear plastic bag but reality proved otherwise. There was so much sauce, all the dishes leaked out of the containers and I arrived home with a mess to clean, especially the ones containing the Mapo Tofu and the Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce. Either way, the food was quite delicious. Spicy Bai Chuan Restaurant will definitely see me coming back in the near future as a return customer. Can 't wait to try some of the other cold dishes! A special shout out to fellow Yelper and friend Charlie C. for letting me know about these amazing Uber Eats promo codes. My wallet thanks you lol. To the most elite non elite Yelper and good food! Cheers :3 UPDATE Spicy Bai Chuan has definitely upped the spiciness since my last visit and review, but the Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce and the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce are still oh so delicious! Highly recommend.
