For New Year's Day, I returned to a restaurant I hadn't visited in years and was delighted by the warm welcome from the bartender and the longtime owner, who is a truly nice man! He personally prepared our meal, which was a wonderful touch. The food was just as fresh and fabulous as I remembered! My father ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce, my brother had the orange beef, and I chose the garlic chicken combo meal that came with soup and an egg roll. I opted for the Egg Drop soup, which was incredibly delicious with the perfect consistency. The duck was superb, and the vegetables were very fresh! The Pork Fried Rice was absolutely outstanding! It was true fried rice; unlike the yellow rice with a bit of onion and small pieces of pork you find at other places, this rice was transparent and genuinely fried—brown with generous portions of pork and onions, plus small bits of vegetables. The seasoning was so tasty, it was addictive! Usually, I don’t eat much and end up taking a lot home, but this time I finished the entire chicken, the amazing egg roll, and a good portion of rice. I even saved some rice for lunch the next day—delicious! My husband loved his duck, and my dad thoroughly enjoyed his shrimp with lobster sauce, which had very fresh shrimp. This is truly an excellent Chinese restaurant! Good Chinese food is hard to find, and while it's a bit off the beaten path now that the I-84 extension has opened, it's still fabulous! You won't be disappointed—that's a promise!
Golden Leaf is located behind a bright yellow bar, which is the closest landmark to the road. Overall, I found the food to be good. My dish wasn't exactly what I had anticipated—I originally wanted bean curd, but they didn't have any, so I opted for mixed vegetables in General Tso's sauce. Unfortunately, that wasn't available either, so I ended up with a mix of vegetables in their house brown sauce. However, since they didn't have bean curd, they generously doubled my order at no extra charge, which was a nice touch! My friend enjoyed his dish—a sweet and sour chicken combo—and said it was pretty standard for Chinese cuisine. The crab appetizer on the menu resembled cream cheese rangoons, but as a vegetarian, I had no complaints; they were delicious with the dipping sauce! We would definitely consider ordering from Golden Leaf again.
This is one of my favorite places for departure in the area. You sometimes have to wait for your food, but it's all so fresh. It's worth waiting.
