The Ultimate Fish Company - Bude

What a gem! Staying in nearby Marhamchurch we fancied fish and chips one evening so looked at the options available to us along with recommendations. The Mermaid had consistently good reviews so we opted to try them out and were not disappointed. Best fish and chips we’ve had in many years with fluffy chips and crispy battered fish so can only endorse the great comments from many other users on Tripadvisor. It was so good we’ve decided to have their fish and chips again before we head home after our break.

Best fish and chips I have had in years. Perfect cooked chips and cod. Friendly staff. I was accidentally overcharged and didn't even notice but it was pointed out to me and refunded.

We always have fish and chips on the first night of our holiday and The Mermaid did not disappoint. Lovely fish and chips all freshly cooked and very busy Highly recommended.

Always go to the Mermaid for Fish Chips after a lovely time on the beach. Recommended by a friend and we’ve never been disappointed. Tried other places but they’re just not the same. Chips and cod are crispy and fresh. Great friendly service and generous portions. Price is what you’d pay anywhere now. Busy.. but that’s for a reason, its quality food

Hadn't been to Bude since before lockdown but one of the highlights was always fish and chips at The Mermaid. We were a bit worried that it might not be as good as we remembered but we shouldn't have worried...... Huge portions, lovely white moist flakey cod in excellent thin crispy batter with beautifully cooked chips. Fish cooked to order and staff welcoming and friendly in this good old fashioned chippy. If you want a proper chippy then go to The Mermaid and considering food-flation the food was excellent value for money..... I won't leave it so long before I go again. I read a few really negative reviews about the place on Tripadvisor and was shocked as what was said was never my experience and all I can say is they must have been in the wrong chippy or were writing bad reviews for some ulterior motive. The Mermaid has always been the best fish and chips in Bude.
