Feedback gevenOld world dining room in a beautiful old stately townhome, with a courtyard, part museum, part elegant dining club, as back to time at another time, experiencing the lost size of a bygone era, Bygone Old World Grandeur in old Buenos Aries. I had... many years on many excursions in this historic dining room, a homage to a military alliance between France and Argentina, but was hesitant to do this because the neighborhood is getting worse and worse over the years and do not want it after the darkness. Les Anciens Combattants, “the old fighters” is located in 1435 Santiago del Estero (Talchuano extended) past Independencia and past the motorway transfer. Cosy area these days and low-end streetwalker Central. Fortunately, Les Anciens Combattants is open on Sunday afternoon. Nevertheless, the front door is kept closed so you need to be patient after you hit the summer to be admitted. It is best to make a reservation before, by submitting, 4305-1701 or by email, [hidden email]. On a glorious afternoon we were admitted by the adorable young woman who turned out to be hostess and waitress for us for a lunchtime. She recommended the price setting 3 course meal for 490p. For less than $15 we got a tasty quiche to start Lorraine, followed by a fried local fish with a shrimp sauce and oven roasted potatoes and ends with a dessert crepe. A free glass of chilled Kira was included. The boss, Laura Ramadori, is classically French and has talent in this visit and the difficulties of getting the right French ingredients in BA. The service was top drawer and the dining room elegant, like the dishes. We will certainly return on another Sunday afternoon.
We celebrated my men Bday in this restaurant in the 22nd April 2011. It was nice. Great food and service. We were 10 including 2 small grandchildren and the staff could not have been more helpful. It's out of the way and we've planned to come back, but not. Our next trip we make additional efforts to revise. The food was authentic French and the ambience was quiet and perfect for our celebration. We did not visit our last BA visit in 2016.
In Constitucion the Red Light District you will find this restaurant in an old casona a patrician house, which is the headquarters of the French war veterans in Argentina, and looks more like a museum than a restaurant. The chef Laura is not French, but... she was born in Pigue, a small town, 500 km south of Buenos Aires, founded by French colonies, all come from Aveyron in the center of France, where French traditions and gastronomy remain. The speciality of the house is venison, but you can also find other plates. There is a beautiful terrace to eat outside, to allow the weather. Sometimes the service is not so professional, but the prices are more than reasonable, and the relation price / quality is very good.
Great secret place to taste very good French food. The place is completely surprising. Perfect to enjoy European food when you visit latin america.
A superb experience in fine dining in an original 19th century Italian home located in the non tourist barrio of Constitucion, a few minutes cab ride from San Telmo, During the 1940s, the exquisite, private home was used by the French veterans Union Francaise des Combattants for...WWI and WWII veterans, later veterans from Indochina were added. The interior Dining Room has the original high ceilings with their beautiful crown moldings, gorgeous parquet floors, French doors, a French flag which belonged to Napolean I, trophies, old photo albums, antique bronze plaques on the walls, and paintings of hunt scenes. There is a huge, outdoor terrace used in warm weather only. We were hoping for a wonderful total experience, and were not disappointed: an unforgettable evening of exquisitely prepared, classic French cuisine, excellent service and kind, one on one attention by the wait staff and by French chef from Toulouse, Alexandre Sourou. The menu is short, and hand written, but the dishes are excellent. After we began with a bottle of local champagne, Alex suggested something special for me, and created a crepe filled with sweet, succulent farm fresh mushrooms, which was not on the menu. My friend raved about his onion soup. We paired a full bodied local cabernet with my deliciously prepared and mustard sauced rabbit, he enjoyed the pavita turkey breast which was prepared again with a lovely sauce. Another menu choice was venison, served only during hunt season, or salmon. Dessert followed his family´s famous ginger tomato confit Paul ; mine was a pure cacao dessert which Alex again prepared for me, off menu. We were the only foreigners present, the others were locals porteños . Reservations are always needed. The staff will gladly call a radio taxi for your return trip. Again, it is a must go , if you are looking for a non tourist, superb restaurant in an historic setting.
