Hwa Yuan Restaurant - Burnaby

I recently visited a booth at the Taiwanese festival on Granville downtown called Sasaya. I decided to try the lemon winter melon tea with grass jelly and found it to be incredibly refreshing on a hot day. I highly recommend it, especially for those who can't have caffeine like my girlfriend. I also tried their fried chicken nuggets and found them to be addicting. However, I was a bit disappointed with the sausage as it was a bit salty. Overall, I would give the experience a rating of almost 4, with the sausage being the only downside.

I love this place. It has been a staple in the community since I moved here, outlasting many other restaurants. Although the interior is not fancy, they have recently undergone renovations and updated their menu. It has taken them some time as they are a small business that primarily relies on word of mouth for customers. I frequent this place often because it serves the best deep fried squid, my favorite dish. Recently, they generously donated three trays of food for the grade 7 graduation at Nelson Elementary school. The staff is friendly, the service is great, they serve hot tea, and the food is delicious. The ambiance is reminiscent of a cozy 80's restaurant, making it feel like home. I always make it a point to visit whenever I have the funds, as all of their dishes are fantastic.

The menu offers a wide variety of options, with the hot pots being the most popular dishes. Although my friends and I enjoyed dishes like the seafood fish hot pot, seafood udon pot, and seafood kimchi pot, we did experience a long wait for our food. It seemed that other tables were also waiting for quite some time, perhaps indicating that the chefs needed extra time to prepare and cook the dishes. The ambiance is a family-friendly atmosphere, though the interior design is not fancy and appears a bit outdated. The location is further away from Kingsway, and not widely known, so I suggest that they consider advertising both online and offline. Overall, it's an okay place to revisit for a meal.

I like their seafood hot pot. I have not tasted anything like that before has lots of flavours.
