Nice classic diner/cafeexcept for the foodDropped in for breakfastGot the classic- 2 eggs, 3 strips of thin cut bacon.
For anyone living in East Van just east of the PNE and North Burnaby, you should know about Janes. We have been going here for over 30 years.
The burger I had was pretty good. It's under new management and has some potential. The young server was polite and attentive. They need to pay attention to the details like cleanliness as my table wasn't very clean. I hear the breakfasts are good.
Ok, so for those of you who don't know a Banana is a Canadian born (or raised) Chinese person (yellow on the outside, white inside.) I know, politically incorrect. But I am one so it's ok for me to write this.My son and I stopped in on a Sunday at lunchtime. It took us a while to stop in to this restaurant because it is has a very underwhelming street presence, even a little sketchy looking. but appearances are deceiving. This place is really good!!Menu: Chinese favourites, diner style dishes, good breaky choices, a smattering of Thai. Everything is very very reasonably priced. We ordered wonton noodle soup w/ bbq pork, spring rolls, Heights burger, and Heights Chow Mein. We really enjoyed everything. Portions are on the large side, quality of food is way better than you would expect, Chinese food isn't greasy, and no MSG (important for me, I'm allergic).Service: Cheerful and efficient, what more do you need for a casual meal?Ambiance: Old school booth seats, a little worn but gives the place a retro feel. Otherwise it's a little "plain Jane" (ha ha) inside. Maybe not a place to come if you've got your fancy pants on though.Value: Amazing value for the quality of food.Location: Very convenient on the north side of Hastings 1 block west of the new Shoppers. Lots of parking in front and on the side street. You might miss it if you're not looking for it though. This is a great place for a casual meal when you and your dining companions want different kinds of food. I saw an eggs benny pass by and it looked good, for all you non-vegans out there.
