The staff was extremely accommodating and the service was far more polite than any other Chinese restaurant I have been to. The food was delicious and portioned well. The prompt and polite staff only added to my positive experience at the restaurant. We will definitely come back when we have family visiting again. Thank you, Lakeview!
On another occasion, I ordered sweet and sour pork, gon chow ngau, and had a picnic in my backyard. I ended up getting a sunburn, which was quite painful given my allergy to sunscreen. The staff at New Lakeview are always friendly and accommodating, although they did make a mistake with my order this time. We ordered lemon chicken, but received braised chicken instead. Surprisingly, the braised chicken was delicious and we didn't mind the mix-up at all.
On New Year's Day, we went to New Lakeview to celebrate because we wanted to stay close to home. Going back to New Lakeview was a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I used to visit this place often with my grandparents a few years ago. Their sweet and sour pork was always my favorite, I would order it every time. Yes, I am a diehard sweet and sour pork fan (still am and not ashamed to admit it). The restaurant was crowded when we arrived, we had to wait for a seat. The interior of the place hasn't changed at all, the furniture, the decor, everything remains the same. We were initially seated at a cramped table but the waitresses kindly offered us a new table when one became available.
I love this place. Please try their fried rice, wonton soup, and assorted veggies. You will like them!
Good selection. Not having gone out for Chinese food in a while, we decided to try New Lakeview. The choice was based on a few factors: open late, no MSG on request, and some dishes on their Menu are not found at many other restaurants. Although other posts on this site had complaints about the service, we found the service attentive and helpful. Then again, we came at 8:30pm on a Sunday a less busy time.<br/ <br/ The first item was the BBQ duck noodle in soup. Originally we had wanted a duck with noodle dish, but the waitress explained the difference between the noodle dish and the soup dish. We appreciated the explanation as we had wanted a soup anyhow. The duck was well cooked and the portion good (as with everything else offered). <br/ <br/ Next was the fried green beans, szechuan style. We had requested this one without the szechuan sauce so we could get the green beans and garlic flavor without the high spice level. Give them points for being accomodating; however the dish itself was a disappointment. The beans were not deep fried, the result being that the beans were crunchy but not crispy. <br/ <br/ The vegetable chow main, on the other hand, was above average. The vegetables were varied and fresh. I requested soft noodles, which may not be everyone's choice, but they had a pleasant, silky texture. As I prefer my dishes not be drenched in soy sauce, they prepared it with gravy instead.<br/ <br/ The other dish was the beef with ginger and green onion. The only complaint about this one was the large slices of ginger; we would have preferred it diced. On the whole, there was nothing exceptional about any of our dishes, but the portions were good and they got all our special requests right. The bill including HST came to $39 not bad considering we had about 2 days worth of take home leftovers.<br/ <br/ Highlights:<br/ <br/ Good selection<br/ Good service, at least when we went there<br/ Good portion to price ratio<br/ <br/ Shortcomings:<br/ <br/ Food has it ups and downs<br/ The restaurant was a bit chilly, so dress accordingly
