OEB Breakfast serves post-modern fusion breakfast. Personally, I found the menu quite creative and innovative and had to give it a try. The restaurant is bright, cute, and the decor resembles the coziness of one’s own house. I went to the restaurant twice and tried to order the lobster crepe. However, it was unfortunately sold out both times I visited. That being said, I was able to try the smoked salmon omelet, crab benedict, and the breakfast-style duck confit twice. To my surprise, the smoked salmon omelet was just a smoked salmon thrown on top of the omelet. I was disappointed as it felt like I was eating the omelet and smoked salmon separately. I would have hoped the salmon would be incorporated into the omelet. On the other hand, the crab benedict was tasty, but there was barely any crab there, which was disappointing. Lastly, the duck confit was probably the most innovative and creative breakfast I have seen. It was a piece of duck confit on toast with a poached egg, onions, fresh herbs, and spicy caramel drizzle. To my surprise, I enjoyed the sweetness of the caramel drizzle together with the crunchy onions, runny soft-poached egg, and the tender and juicy duck. The second time I ordered it; however, the duck was overly seasoned and too salty. Overall, I would go back, but I would like to see some changes as to how the dishes are made, as reading the menu can be misleading and can lead to disappointment.
I usually order the bowls.I ordered the rib poutine bowl but it was on the extremely salty side this time around and we told the staff. The response was that there was nothing wrong with the dish and that the chef said it’s not salty. I asked if we can make the same dish but less seasoning (you can see coarse salt and seasonings in the mushrooms and potatoes) — there was some back and forth with the front staff but the chef pulled through.I was happy about it but in waiting, I couldn’t eat much of it so I packed most of it home. The servers didn’t notice that our water glasses were empty so we had to ask for refills of water a few times but they were friendly.
I love OEB. It serves great food at reasonable prices. Normally, you would have to go downtown to get similar quality food. I say this with a heavy heart but the quality of food has slipped a bit at this location.Everything on the menu is good but stand out items for me are: Waffle Fries Potato (side) Pancakes
Had brunch there yesterday. Food was excellent and service was even better. Our waiter, Geoff, was very friendly. I had the avocado crustini and my friend had lobster poutine, we both loved our meals. The only downside is how crowded the small restaurant feels but it’s very popular and not a big space so can’t fault them too much for that.
