1886 Buffalo Cafe - Calgary

Lovely little restaurant in and old cabin style. Good choice of breakfasts done in their own style but all good range

For more than 30 years I have visited this cafe when in the city. Consistently nice service, nostalgic and good wholesome food. Great location and a stroll along theBow River afterward is a delight. Everything we've enjoyed on the menu here is good. I'm partial to the Kenny Special.

Regrettably, I was not able to experience the 1886 Buffalo Cafe because they decided to close during operating hours at 12:55PM. I would understand if they had a legitimate reason like a power outage. The cited reason they decided to close? "I had no customers since 11:30." Really?One would expect that they would be happy to finally see a customer, but closing somehow seemed more important to them. There were 2 other people trying to get some food, but they just kicked us out. They didn't offer to have a coffee or whatever they had available.This is the second time I am trying to check out this place and this is the second time it was closed. The first time the placed closed at 2PM but misleadingly left the "we're open" sign outside because (according to the staff member) they forgot to remove it. I hope that this review will be understood as a learning opportunity to improve the standard of service.

Good breakfast here. Good selection , big portions.People from the nearby hotels seem to go here like we did to escape the expensive buffet breakfast at the hotel .Service can be spotty and keep in mind its in the original mill bldg. from the late 1880's, including the furniture and flooring , which adds to the historic feel .Not lot of seating but if you have 2-4 people then its perfect. Having said that we and my daughter visited twice to get a good hearty breakfast for under $25.Recommended

We adored this place. Omelettes tailored to perfection for each of us, great fresh fruit, warm, sun streaming in, good atmosphere, busy yet available tables, good service, even gluten free toast!
