I love the variety on the menu and the food is amazing quality from appetizers through dessert. I usually only drink tap water but can't resist their special lemonade they serve. I always go home with half my meal as left overs so I definitely think it's a great value!
We have eaten at Aida's numerous times and we keep coming back whenever we are in Calgary. It's a perfect place for meeting friends who like to share. We ordered the Messa vegetarian sampler, the kebab sampler, garlic prawns and a fattoush salad which we shared between 6 people. With some pittas this was quite enough for dinner and each bite was a pleasure. We split three desserts, all wonderful but the Lebanese tiramisu was my favourite. The bill with drinks and tip came to just over $200, which I thought was very reasonable. I don't give many establishments 5 stars but the service, price and absolutely stunning quality of the food makes Aida's a must visit if you are in Calgary. Bon appetite!
It was my wife's birthday and since we have been wanting to try this place for some time now, we finally did. The service was friendly and reasonably fast - we got our appetizers quickly and they were great. The wait for the main course was a bit long and when the food finally came, things went from bad to worse! First the waitress informed me that my kebabs were over cooked and that it would be a few minutes before she could get me a new skewer. I said that would be ok and thanked her. When the waitress came back to check on us, my wife very reluctantly (the Canadian way)! told her that her shawarma was tough, the waitress told my wife that is the way it is supposed to be! We have had shawarma before! And the portions were very small. I finally got the properly cooked kebabs when we were just about done so the waitress offered to pack it for me! We had dessert which was really good and the establishment and the waitress recovered well by not charging for the dessert as my wife was not happy about her shawarma! And they didn't know it was her birthday! The skewers of kebab were very small - especially given the price. Probably not going back anything soon!
I recently had dinner with friends at Aida's. The four of us shared two vegetarian mezze platters, as well as some extra sides--and what a feast!I am somewhat picky about baba ghannouj, but Aida's was perfect--a little smoky, and just the right texture. The Mouhammara was AMAZING! The stuffed grape leaves were also especially tasty. The Rookak (stuffed phyllo rolls) are worth trying too. The felafel was perfectly cooked--nice and crispy but soft on the inside.I tried the knafi for dessert. Although it was good, it didn't blow me away. But maybe that's because I was already hopelessly stuffed. The Arabic coffee served with dessert provided a much needed kick after such a meal.I only tried Aida's at the invitation of a friend, toward the end of a short stay in Calgary. I kind of want to move to Calgary now, just so I can go back to this restaurant.Aida's also has many options for vegetarians.
Having eaten in Aida's when I lived in Calgary many years ago, I thought I would attempt a reunion with all I enjoyed previously.Thankfully I was not disappointed. Portions continue to be generous and delicious, there were many diners, staff was efficient and the wine and beer choices sufficient.Hummus and pita were great, as was the tabbouleh. There are lots of restaurant choices in this area and this one continues to deliver good food.
