Small restaurant with a very basic layout; paper napkins, beer in bottles (no glasses offered), "Mexican Sandwiches" in baskets, and limited menu. Many things that I have never seen in a Mexican restaurant - sandwiches? Many things that I would have expected weren't there - no ceviche, no chile rellanos. More of a diner than a restaurant. BUT the food we got was tasty and filling and a good price. If I were rating on just the food I'd go to Very Good but with all of the other items included I have to go to Average. Each day has drink and food specials that seem very reasonable - Mexican beer for $5!
Stumbled on this simple, tiny restaurant a couple of mints ago and since then have gone once a week. This is truly casual dining. The ceviche is delicious. A very healthy portion and it's the right amount of lime. The tacos are all yummy. Each night there is a special worth checking out. This is the most authentic Mexican food I have had out side of Mexico. The staff are very friendly and service is efficient.
This place has saved Calgary from not having a single decent Mexican restaurant. I had their tamarind and mango margaritas, which were quite good (tamarind can be a very sour flavour easily, but these guys had the right mix of sweet and sour). For food, we ordered the ceviche, which was decent, and a good sized portion. The chicken mole was flavourful, with the right amount of spiciness (not mouth burning, but a good after taste). My friends ordered enchilladas, totrtillas, etc which were spicy too. The service was friendly. The only disappointment was that the desserts on the menu were not available due to a malfunctioning oven.During the day, this is a smoked deli place. The Mexican part opens for dinner only. It is open fairly late on Friday (2 am).
It is a small place with 5 tables and a lunch counter. Food is served in plastic baskets lined with paper. They have the basic Mexican snacks: Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, guacamole, tortilla soup. We had tortilla soup, guacamole and three different tacos. Tortilla soup was a little too hot, spicy, guacamole very good chunky style with in-house chips, tacos: chicken mole was hot, chicken avocado was like guacamole with chicken served cold, lots of chicken and tasty, chorizo was mostly potato, OK but not great. The margarita and mojito were excellent. The water served was not chilled or flavored with lemon. My ranking is based on like restaurants that do not use plates. You know who they are. It is also Kickers Smoked Meat
