The staff doe not seem to trained in the world of food , but rather just have a job and earn some cash while in school. That is the impression I got any how. My husband is English and refuses to eat there.
This place is simply the ONLY place you should be going for fish and chips! I'm a transplanted lower mainlander so I've had the famous Pajo's in Richmond, BC, but the British Chippy blows them out of the water. The fish is crispy and battered just right! The chips are homemade and fried to perfection. Portions are good sized too.
Coming from Nova Scotia (with an Uncle that fishes) I am thrilled to find a place that offers the best fish I have eaten since leaving home! Their fresh made coleslaw and pineapple desert are delicious too! I highly recommend it eating here.
Our first time at the British Chippy and we were not disappointed.Good thing we went when they first opened as it got really busy fast. It was a Saturday. The owner greeted and served us. She was very attentive and friendly.I had the Haddock and chips $16.25 & my husband had the Cod and chips, also $16.25. Usually Haddock is more money. It was one very large piece with generous pile of the best golden chips ever. They weren't the least bit greasy. No complaints from us about anything here.
I always wanted to use that line (title of review). One of only a few places in town where my wife can order and eat fish and chips is this little place in a strip mall in SW Calgary. Why, you ask? Because she is allergic to shellfish and cannot eat anything that has been fried in the same oil as any shellfish (think calamari). So many places, even if they have multiple deep fryers will fry the fish and the calamari in the same oil, understandable, but a 911 call for my wife. And, many places only have one fryer, which means that she cannot even have fried anything. Why am I going into all this? Because the Chippy's only seafood is fish... haddock or cod.Generous portions of breaded fish (I like haddock, my wife like cod) and thick cut fried potatoes make for portions that are very hard to finish. If you add on mushy peas or any of their other sides, you will not be able to eat everything, even though you will really, really want to.Two orders of fish and chips and two coffees for $37 before tip.Great place,,, go there.
