The menu is based on the typical food from the Cali region, or otherwise called, el Valle del Cauca. The area is calm, safe and pleasant. My spouse and I arrived after 3 PM and had empanadas, chicharon, yuca frita and the chorizo. Ten Ten Pie is a great find and will be back many times.
I took a tour of the city and stopped at Tentenpie for lunch. The restaurant provides a traditional Colombian fare of food selections. I think I ordered the Chuleta de Cerdo Tulueña (pork chop), but it was boneless. It was delicious. Usually, Colombian dishes use very lean cuts of meat which often result in the food tasting dry if sauces are not applied. Tentenpie prepared a dish quite succulent, needing no more than a fork to transport to mouth and belly. I think Tulueña indicates the cooking style is based from the city of Tulua which is in the Cauca Valle. Good portions.
You could go to Pacifico or Ringlete for a better taste of Vallecaucana cuisine for sure. This place was just right down the line OK. Little ambiance, straightforward service (real issue getting the check though) and the food was sort of underwhelming. We got a chicken salad that was big for nothing. Vegetables not fresh, bland chicken and not too much of it. My girlfriend basically ate the small amount of chicken chunks/strips and almost the whole salad. That is not like her. I had chicken tamales. Nothing like a Mexican tamale but fairly typical for the region. The texture was OK and overall it was inoffensive but if you didn't smother it in hogao (sauce with tomatoes, onions, etc) it had zero flavor. The salad was an average value at best, the tamales offered a little more bang for your buck but not much motivation to finish them. We ordered a juice, it had almost no flavor. Not much fruit or sugar, very watery.Overall I would say this place is OK in a pinch but why would you be in a pinch in this area? Many better options are walking distance.
Highly recomended the cazuela de frijoles.personal is very atentive, the chef came to our table and explained how the food was prepared, all with the simpaty of the Caleños
By chance we stumbled upon this simple and very nice restaurant. It is about 2 blocks from the Dan Carlton where we were staying. We ate there twice and would have returned had we not had been invited to other places.I am overwhelmed with Colombian manners! again, the nice guy and the girl were superb. He could not have been any nicer, helpful and friendly. I had the lentil soup, someone else had 'sopa de pan' I thik with another dish with meat and rice and plantains...I cant remember the names of the dishes but let me tell you, they were delicious. I ended buying one of the cook books.Go there...you will remember this review.Best,
