The White Stag Inn - CALLANDER

I recently stayed at their hotel and had dinner at their restaurant. The dinner was fantastic and the owners, Audrey and Mark, were charming and hospitable. I had a wonderful time! I regret not taking any photos of the food, but I ordered the Vegetable Dhansak and a Chocolate Caramel Cake, both of which were delicious. Currently, they are only able to accommodate hotel guests for dinner due to being short-staffed. However, I highly recommend this establishment if you are in need of a hotel. This restaurant should consider stepping out of the hospitality industry. The service I received was the worst attitude I have experienced in a long time. The staff were extremely inhospitable. The food was subpar but the beer was decent. If you are considering dining here, I would advise against it. You have been warned.

I was delighted to hear that this restaurant had a dedicated vegan menu, but unfortunately that is no longer available. However, vegan options are clearly labeled on the main menu, although there is now a smaller selection of wines. The menu includes a vegetable soup starter and three main dishes to choose from: curry, burger, and pizza. There are no dessert options available. Despite this, it was still a positive experience to dine out in this small village. Reservations for food must be made by phone. The food was good and the service was excellent.

Mark, Audrey and their team are the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and with three vegan starters, mains and a couple of desserts we were spoiled for choice. We were already discussing when we could stay again before we’d even left the car park. Mark is also a brewer and plans to open a micro brewery in one end of the building. Watch this space! We discovered White Brain restaurant while staying at a nearby Airbnb. Despite reading some negative comments and reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome, delicious food, great beer, and overall wonderful experience. The pub is extremely dog-friendly and even allowed our teenagers to join us (although they had to leave at 9 pm due to licensing restrictions). We were told that there was a shortage of staff, which may cause delays, but we did not experience any delays and were served promptly. The pizza was exceptional, comparable to what we've had in Italy! There were plenty of vegetarian options available, and the pizza could also be made vegan. We enjoyed our meal so much that we changed our plans and returned the following night. An added bonus was the free EV chargers nearby, allowing us to charge our car while enjoying our meal. We highly recommend this restaurant!
