Feedback gevenWhen it comes to restaurants, in a city spoilt for choice, it's endearing to have a favourite, a local gem, a cute hole-in-the-wall that you keep coming back to. This is what the small Japanese eatery Nakashima at The Rocks was for me. I've been eating there for lunch or dinner since I discovered it during my first year or so at my job on nearby Harrington St, some 16 years ago!I think I could confidently say I've eaten there a dozen times a year on average, so I'm pretty well versed with the menu (which has rarely changed from memory), the perks of Happy Hour (6-7pm when the first drink is free) and the quality & consistency of the food. After so many years of great, well priced delicious food, it's is heartbreaking to write this review where I recommend STEER CLEAR.The last couple of years Nakashima has slowly but surely declined; first were the little things like ordering drinks or food and having them completely missed from service, ordering saké for two and having only one cup delivered and then forgotten after reminding them two or three times and then giving up and sharing a glass with your friend/colleague/husband. Then came the time where I was violently (and I mean violently!) sick with food poisoning within 20 minutes of eating the Beef Tataki (raw/rare beef like carpaccio) which was the only thing I had that my dining companions didn't. Then were the times when ordering took 40 minutes (not even a drink order), and entrees & mains turned up haphazardly missing sides like rice and miso. These events made me think, 'they're training new staff' or 'maybe it's new owners' but I confirmed that new owners are not the case.Tonight was the nail in the coffin. Half our order (which consisted of 5 entrees and four mains, plus drinks) was missing, one main arrived before the entrees for our group of four people, we didn't get cups for our sake after asking several times and drank it our of water glasses, the rest of the mains showed up 10 minutes before the accompaniments (rice & miso), the bathrooms were unhygienic and disgusting and the floor was sticky and shards of glass were randomly littered from an earlier breakage. I'm pretty annoyed and disappointed, and frankly fed-up, and I won't ever go back. Nakashima, you are dead to me.
I've been going to Nakashima for a few years. I've always found it a pleasant place to go. The food has remained good yet arguably expensive. I ate there tonight though and the restaurant, which has challenges drawing customers mid-week, put in place a new surcharge on all credit card transactions of 3%. This detracts from the overall experience when consideration is given to current piece arrangements. Negative experience.
I ordered a sushi and sashimi combination. Very nice variety of fishes, great to share if you are not a complete sushi fanatic like me. Good value for money and service despite of a very humble decoration. Hi
Our family of 4 ate dinner here in the outside but enclosed dining area. The food was average and the menu was limited. We ordered the sushi and sashimi but were unsure what specifically we received as the waitress spoke limited English and did not give us any choices on the meal. The kids liked the chicken teriyaki.
Je recomande cet etablissement : nouriture bonne et bon serviceLes serveuses sont toutes gentilles meme si elle ne parlent que peu l anglais
