Not 100% authentic but what the heck if you're craving for Sarawak Laksa. Only a Sarawakian will know what I mean..ha! ha!.Highly recommend their tomato sauce kueh teow, another Kuching favorite. Their curry puff is yummy. They have a big menu with good choices of Malaysian favorites. Portion is big and therefore value for money. If you're craving for Malaysian or even Sarawak Laksa, highly recommended.
Having recently visited Bali and Singapore, Albee's is our new go-to place when we want to re-live the magic of hawker-style food. Their Nasi Lemak with beef rendang is superb as is the water spinach with sambal and their char kway teow. I'm no expert on hainanese chicken rice, but Albee's version is really good.
Visited this place many times in the past and the restaurant recently moved to a new location on the same street. Cleaner and bigger space. Can't say the same for the toilet. Could use some improvement.Food so far has been consistent from our experience. Ordered the set meals for this visit. Hainanese chicken rice and the Spicy Asam Fish Cutlet with rice. Also ordered the curry puff and prawn cracker - with real prawns (and not the prawn chips which they also sell per bag). We thought the prawn cracker was a new item on the menu since we have never seen it before in the previous location...loved it. Hubby kept reminiscing how the taste was close to home in Penang. Lol Pretty happy. Service is quick and fast. Food is good, generous in portion and cheap. Its shared table and can get really busy, noisy and crowded. We normally come here for a quick meal and leave. Good selection of Malaysian sweets (kuih).
Went there for lunch. There is a wide range of Malaysian food and what we ordered was tasty. Whether or not it is authentic depends on which Malaysian regional cuisine one uses as a basis of comparison. The lor bak, for instance, is very nice but bears no resemblance to what I have eaten in West Malaysia. The chicken wrapped in pandan looked a bit dry but was actually quite tasty and moist once you bit into it. My dining partner could not identify which part of Malaysian cuisine his clay pot seafood noodle represented. The char kueh teow was ok.My order for kola mee (korn loh meen) was placed at 1.15pm. By 2.15 it had still not arrived. The eleven other diners at our table were finishing their meals by that time. Each waiter I asked said "it is coming". I finally got a bowl of noodles with vegetables whereas I had ordered it with bbq pork and wonton soup as well. The waiter tried to blame me for ordering incorrectly; I had pointed to the photo of the dish on the menu; he was obviously not paying attention. I waited and waited in vain for the correct order to arrive and finally at 2.30pm I asked for my money back.So I drove for over an hour to the other side of Sydney in heavy traffic to Albee's for lunch..... and had no lunch.Needless to say I am not impressed with the service I got from this waiter. We also bought some nonya kuih to take away: kueh talam and seri muka, and they were both very nice and authentic.Would I go back? hmmm...not sure! But I don't think they'd care because they appear to have a constant stream of customers.
I have been here twice because my partner is from Malaysia and therefore likes Malaysian food. Both times I ordered the fried chicken with rice and twice the chicken inside was still raw. I questioned the waitress about the raw chicken and she just looked at me with a dull face (due to poor English I assume), took the meal away and gave me a new portion (15 minutes later) without apologizing. I can only hope it was a new portion and not just the same chicken pieces re-fried. Please be aware of the food in this restaurant! I can understand that it is rush hour during dinner but that doesn't justify under-cooked food.
