This place has the best vanilla/milk ice cream I've tried in Toronto! Comparing to other ice cream spots along Queen West (Cauldron, Kekou, Cacao 70, etc. , Cool N2 is my most favourite so far. The ice cream was mixed fresh to order with liquid nitrogen which was super fun to watch! We opted for Honey Crisp (two scoops topped with Frosted Flakes honey drizzle and loved it. The ice cream was rich of milky flavour and its texture was amazing as well very light/fluffy and super smooth. It was also not too sweet that kept you eating without feeling sick of it. We also appreciated the fact that they added toppings to both scoops of ice cream, instead of just the one on top. The cereals added perfect amount of crunch! Overall, amazing nitrogen ice cream spot. Definitely coming back!
My friend and I walked in to Cool N2 on a whim while we were looking for desserts after lunch. It was empty inside (probably because it was cold out). Since we've never had nitrogen ice cream before, the salesperson gave us a decent explanation. He also walked us through the different types of ice cream and what's popular. We decided to go with the mango flavored dippin' dots type ice cream since he mentioned that was a favorite here. The experience of watching him make the ice cream in the mixer was pretty cool. It also looked instagrammable once he served it to us in the cup with the nitrogen clouds surrounding it. The photos came out great! The ice cream itself didn't taste good to me. I appreciated that the mango syrup was mostly separated out in the syringe since I don't like my ice cream very sweet. The syrup was super sweet and I personally don't really like the texture/consistency of syrup in general. The mango chunks that topped the cup got in the way, but they were fine. The ice cream was basically just plain dippin dots drizzled with mango syrup which was a little gross to eat. There was way more ice cream than the two of us could finish together. We only got through half the cup; I wish there was a smaller size. Overall, the ice cream looked pretty, but I didn't enjoy eating it at all.
This was my first time with liquid nitrogen ice cream. Made for excellent photography. I had the triple Oreo and the ice cream itself was amazing.
Nitrogen ice cream places seem to be the rage lately and this place isn't a terrible option. We found the product and presentation to be pretty solid, but the atmosphere and service left something to be desired. I'm not sure that we would come back but we enjoyed the ice cream. We tried the Triple Oreo in a cone and the Mr. Brownie in a cup. The presentation was spot on and the flavors of the ice cream were pretty good. This is definitely an Instagram type of place and delivers on that. They have some seating but if it wouldn't take many people to become crowded. Plus the atmosphere wasn't anything exciting. If you need a sweet treat this will deliver.
