Le Rendez Vous - Carcassonne

Initially called in to order 4 coffees at around 11.40 am. The woman who was a member of the staff stood blocking the doorway as we tried to enter and she seemed more interested in her mobile phone than moving out of the way. The younger man behind the bar also seemed very disinterested but did take the order for 4 coffees which he brought to the table but without the water that we had also asked for. I went across the bar and collected the water but without any comment from the man. Also our group asked about lunch and as there were apparently no printed menus, we were told to get up and walk across to the printed board to read the choice. No other potential customers were in the bar/tearoom/restaurant and the two staff obviously had nothing to do. It was then that we all decided that enough was enough and clearly the staff were trying to discourage us from staying for lunch. As we left the woman was still on the phone and ignored our friendly au revoir greetings as we left. Awful staff and no wish to go back again!

This place is always busy with the local worker and visiting shopper lunch crowd. Although it is in a rather non-descript building and part of a large shopping centre and mall precinct, it is still very French and worth a look in. The lunch special allows an appetiser (entrée in non-US places) and main (entrée for Americans) or main and dessert. For 16 euros if you take the prix fixe option, this is a bargain and the quality of the food is generally good. Service can be a a bit a slow when it is busy but just slurp more wine and learn to be patient.

There were four of us. We wanted a relatively inexpensive and quick lunch. We found the right place. The very friendly (but a bit hit and miss) service .... we got used to! The avocado crevette starters were fine. The mains were grilled salmon pieces which were surprise, surprise very good in deed with a nice sauce and well delivered rice. Three deserts (one glace very good, 2 strawberry melbas, again very good, one of our party skipped desert a mistake). There was a demi rose and one bottle of beer. It all came to about €70 pretty good value. And it was nice sitting outside too!
