Oak Elixir - Carlsbad

Did we receive the appetizers and the duck at the same time during dinner? Then they took the duck back so we could enjoy the appetizers, only to bring the duck back cold 5-7 minutes later? It might have been tasty, but it was served too cold. I was disappointed because it was my birthday dinner, and I was hoping for a leisurely lunch, but we were finished in less than an hour.

After dinner, we continued to savor our wine, and he offered us dessert. He also asked if we wanted more water since our carafe was empty (which was important given the end of a crazy heat wave), and we said yes. The dessert arrived, but our plates were still left on the table. We managed to eat about half of the dessert, and as we noticed him helping other tables, we waited for another 20 minutes without receiving any water or attention. Eventually, my sister had to flag him down to ask for water. I've been here a few times before and had decent experiences, but this time was disappointing. Unfortunately, I left feeling unwelcome and will likely not return.

This is a lovely place. I couldn't find anything to complain about; the food and drinks were exceptional. I've tried several restaurants around State Street, but I keep coming back to Oak Elixir. The cocktails are fantastic! I had the chili margarita, which was intriguing and delicious in a unique way. They offer dining both indoors and outdoors. I would recommend making reservations on weekends.

I liked my whisky sour and the artichoke Crostini was good. The chicken livers Crostinis were tasty, but the cake was a bit hard for some reason. Peach Burrata Salat and Short Rib were great. Raviolis were like that.

I LOVE this place and the staff. I was planning to have my wedding reception here in 2020 and then COVID hit. The team was fantastic all along the way as we tried to reschedule. I was finally able to hold a smaller reception dinner with family here this summer. Not only was the room absolutely stunning but the food was delicious! I live out of state but Oak Elixir will forever be on my list of places to stop when I am in town. Highly recommend! Great spot for a quick bite with friends or to hold an event.
