But the walls don 't need to speak the owner Tony, upon request, proudly shares the town and restaurant history, as well as the ghostly stories. Smalley Inn has been covered on a couple tv shows, attracting many curious people from all over the tri state area and beyond, as well as psychics and paranormal visiting groups who travel from afar. I cannot steel Tony 's thunder sharing too many story details, but to give a couple bits the Inn dates back to the civil war.. And Tony tells about Booth 21... Spooky Halloween is definitely a time to visit. The pub is also known for its decked out Halloween displays in October which include actors. We had the messy roast beef sandwich and meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Good home cooked pub comfort food. Huge servings; I took half home. But the main attraction here is the history and Tony 's story telling if you ask him. He is such a personable, sweet man, so proud of his business, evident by all the regulars smiling and greeting him as he gave us a tour of the place. Definitely recommend for the experience if you 're in the area. And Tony is seeking out investors to find old ghost dwelling venues in other areas so Who knows you may see a ghostly Smalley Inn elsewhere one day.
We decided to come here because of all the talk about this establishment being haunted. It was featured on dead files and in local folklore. We didn't know the seating layout and we were seated in the front area. We ordered the mozzarella sticks and they were really good. The cheese was fried perfect and the marinara sauce was pretty flavorful. I ordered the sink burger which came with bacon lettuce and tomato. It also came with mayo on the side. The coleslaw was unappetizing because it had no real pizazz and was room temp which was a huge turnoff. The burger itself tasted like it was a frozen patty. Flavor was mediocre and nothing special. The bacon was chewy and tasted cheap. I think they skimp a bit on their fries too. Service was very good and our waitress was totally efficient and met our needs. Nothing scary going on when we were there. The ambiance matched the theme of this place. It was dark and smelled musty. It had the old creepy pub look. Old pics everywhere. James Smalley pic staring at you while you ate. The table tops had lacquered pennies on the table. This place definitely has a story to tell. Probably best to visit this place around Halloween.
I love this place. Yes, I saw it on dead files and so we decided to check it out. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. We drove 40 mins to come here and I would totally come back aga Good pub food, nice waitress and the owner Tony was super nice. We were there bc we knew it was haunted and he showed us pictures of cool things people had seen! So, if you don 't want to see pictures that 's fine. I know people who have been here many many times and never known it 's know as haunted. They only brought us out the pictures because we walked in like school kids saying we saw you on TV!! Charming rustic decor even when not with the Halloween theme. My French dip was yummy! All the rest of my family had burgers and they cleaned plates!
Came for ghosties and left with a laugh but happily full and tipsy. Some of the wait staff wasn 't very friendly when we walked in (they were all sitting at one table chatting) but after we picked a table ourselves, the waitress who came to our table all night turned out to be very chill and nice. We had mozz sticks, calamatz, half plate of nachos (which was still big) and wings, along with multiple rounds of beers. We were the last in the dining room that evening and then made our way to the bar where we ended up speaking w the owner for about 30 mins about the hauntings. I was not personally convinced by the photos considering I 've been a photographer for over 12 years (and i can tell the difference btw a possible spirit and a camera flare or an overexposure) but it was cool to think about. I would GLADLY take up the offer to go down in the basement if i was allowed next time HINT HINT, but until then, i will say it still has a great history and some damn good bar eats and for crazy affordable prices too. hey ghosts, hit me up!
So sad they closed down gonna miss karaoke nights!!! The owner Tony was such a nice guy and also this place is haunted hopefully it reopens and has karaoke night because there is not much to do upstate ny
