The Island Spot - Carrollton

My husband is a big fan of oxtails, and this restaurant did not let us down! The brown gravy was just what he was hoping for, and I enjoyed the curry chicken. Everything was incredibly tender and practically falling off the bone! The plantains were delicious and perfectly fried. We both chose rice and peas along with sautéed vegetables as our sides. The atmosphere was very relaxed; it's not a place where you feel rushed to eat and leave. We will definitely be coming back!

This is a wonderful place to enjoy some of the most delicious and satisfying food that your taste buds will love. The menu is diverse, offering unique yet familiar dishes, all served in an atmosphere that beautifully highlights Jamaican cuisine. Honestly, you can't go wrong with dining or having lunch here.

I ordered the curry chicken meal, and the chicken was incredibly flavorful. However, I found the rice and beans to be rather bland and dry. To enhance the dish, I added the curry sauce to my rice, which helped improve the flavor. I also thought the cabbage was undercooked; it, along with all the vegetables, was quite crunchy and lacked seasoning. I hate to make comparisons, but when I think of jerk restaurants in Chicago and other cities, they usually offer better side options like mac and cheese or greens.

I had been wanting to try this spot for some time, maybe a little over a year. I was in the area and I spotted it out of the corner of my eye, so I decided to stop by. The food was delicious, but the service was somewhat slow. A family came in like 10minutes after me and they got their food first. Its not a big place, but big enough to dine in and it has a bar area. There werea lot of people when I went around 3pm. I'm not sure what they put on the carrots, but those were the best carrots I have everhad lol. I got the 3 meat plate and a Jamaican soda. All in all it was super good. I definitely recommend and I'll go back.

Food was great, taste authentic the service awful. She never returned after the food was delivered, forgot to bring me another sauce as requested as the restaurant was slow that day. I noticed during a take out order, they forgot to give a customer theirdrink, she returned to get it. They had enough time to be on cell phones though. I would returned for the food, buy definitelycheck the order before leaving.
