Feedback gevenConveniently located opposite the viewpoint, was the selling point! Rustic atmosphere and open fire on a gloomy rainy day made us to sit down to the only available table. We glanced to see what the table next to us ordered and saw the meat skewers cooking in the open fire. Then we waited and waited. The traditional soup (clear broth, with bread pieces and poached egg) arrived after an HOUR! The skewers, salad (lettuce, tomato and onion) and hand fried chips took another half hour. Small portions, big prices! Not recommended
A very disappointing lunch today at the Miranda de portela restaurant, after a long levada walk starting near camacha. Really long wait for the food and very grumpy staff. The food was fine when it eventually arrived, but small portions. The steak skewers we thought we had ordered turned out just to be steak. Very disappointing, after such a good write up in the levada book, Walk Eat Madiera . Just get a taxi back to Funchal, where there are lots of good restaurants only too happy to see custom.
We had just done the Ribiero walk and saw this amazing old world looking hotel and thought lunch. Yes we do food said the guy at the bar .We got a menu and a couple of drinks and sat down in a little dark wooden room on old fashioned stools. The prices were a bit stiff but we would have soup . The Caldo verde please. Sorry not available . The tomato soup. Sorry finished. The traditional Madeira soup was available . O.k after about 45 minutes these 2 plates of consomme with bread pieces in it and an egg poached in the centre and a sprig of thyme in each plate arrived . We were needing our time to get the bus now so quickly paid and got away. This was really something from another period in history .It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad it was an experience we will always remember.
I went there with my family for an early dinner, as we go there whenever We visit Madeira. We like this traditional small restaurant, where the older waiter speaks little English, but very kind. There is not a big selection of food, but they have the best Espetada!
Superb espatada served and cooked in an open wood burning oven right in front of you. Cooked to our preferred standard first time. Perfect ending to a super lavada walk (PR 10).
