A little gem at the end off a busy street full of restaurants but worth walking to end of street for. Inside and outside seats we ate inside. I had pork my partner Portugese beef. There was a mix up over the side order . I specifically said no French fries but that's what arrived. Dessert and 2 wines came to 74 euro. Worth another visit
I was really excited to come back and eat their delicious lagareiro as I had eaten this particular dish 3times here in 1 week, last year. I also brought my best friend with us who has heard so much about this dish. Long story short, we ordered the portuguese style mussels expecting the garlic and butter and coriander dish but what came out was mussels in a tomato broth. The mussels were fresh, but that broth was so tasteless, I was embarrassed. I went and got salt and liberally salted the dish, but our table felt very let down. My lagareiro came and looked delicious. I was so excited, and our table commented how amazing it looked. Sadly, I had to liberally salt this too. I just felt so let down by these 2 dishes that I never ate more than 2 bites even tho I had saved my appetite for this dish. First rule of the chef is to taste his food. I am not sure if there is a new chef who just does not check his cooking but my disappointment at finding my favorite dish not cooked like before was a huge letdown. I gave hubby half my food and he said it was absolutely not as tasty as last year and felt maybe the chef was new. The steak my husband ordered as medium and came medium well to well as the steak was vastly uneven. The other dish was Sole and it was good. For the price point of this place, we should have really complained about the taste of our 2 dishes as we supported this restaurant last year. The staff are so amazing that we just left without complaining. I am going to try the lagareiro 1 more time this week before we leave Portugal. If the food is anything like yesterday, we will not come back on our yearly visit.
I had dinner on a quiet january evening. the waitress was kind. I was surprised that they had only one (house) red wine from the glass. I had a tasty appetizer of big garnels or small garnels in a garlic sauce I ordered the red mullet (2 in the order.) the waiter warned me that this fish had many bones. they served all the fish that was an attractive laying. they offered to debon the fish they did. but there were no bones I'm glad I tried this fish I never had before. it has not as soft as sea bas; not as hard as hard fish. it had a good taste, not great. that is perhaps not the fault of the restaurant. only I was not so impressed by the fish.
Tradicional Comida portuguesa, bem feita. Tentamos os filetes com arroz e caril de gambas, ambos grandes.
