It would be nice to have a couple of vegan options on the menu, As it was, I chose the beet and goat cheese salad without the goat cheese. The salad was delicious but with just a little too much dressing on there. It would be nice to see maybe a veggie burger on the menu that could be veganized or a nice vegan pasta dish, rather than being limited to salad. The service was perfect.
I ate at The Nineteenth before a round of golf in May. We had a table of 8 and we sat on the deck overlooking the 13th green. The food took a little longer than I would have liked and we were rushed to tee off in time. The food was ok... but nothing stood out as being remarkable. The service, on the other hand, was really good. The server acknowledged that the food was taking a long time and did her best to keep us informed and to keep our drinks full while we waited.
This is probably the best restaurant in Castlegar when you want a decent meal out run by experienced restauranteurs. Went with a girlfriend for drinks and food. Both of us had lovely salads and shared pulled pork spring rolls (yum!) and shared the mini doughnuts for dessert (double yum!!). The view of the golf course and the mountains is nice too!
Yesterday my husband and I went for a burger, I have celiac disease so I got the gluten free chicken and Brie burger. I have tried a lot of gluten free bread and buns and for the most part they are not great. This was by far the best burger I have ever had gluten free!! I am so excited I finally have somewhere I can go and eat a meal that I really love. The staff was very accommodating and knowledge about what I could eat. Thank you guys so much I am very excited about this for Castlegar!!
We were met by the owner at the door who, instead of taking us to our table, just waived his hand around the room and said, "You can sit here, or here, or here" and then just walked away and left us standing there. We should have turned around and left, but based on previous reviews decided to stay and try the food. The service never improved; after a long wait a girl "sauntered" over (speed and efficiency doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary), and placed two menus and two glasses of water at our table. She asked if we wanted anything else to drink and I said I would like a glass of wine. She stared at me blankly and said, "Oh?? Would you like a wine list??" I would prefer the wine and not the list, but if that's what I need to get a glass of wine then bring me the list. She did, and that was the last we saw of her for about 20 minutes. We waited and waited to give our order, but no one appeared. The bartender, George, looked at us multiple times in that 20 minutes and never ONCE did he tell the waitress we were ready to order, or even better, he never even attempted to talk to us to see if we wanted to dine at his establishment. Strange that the owners have no interest in their patrons who keep them in business. After a very long wait the girl eventually returned with a smirky smile on her face and smelling of cigarettes. I can only imagine what she was doing behind the building on her "break" that she kept us waiting over. We eventually placed our order and received our food and drink. We shared the beet and goat cheese salad and I had the fig and brie flatbread. The salad was reasonably good, but the beets had been boiled in water and not roasted and it ruined the flavor of the beets. Beets should ALWAYS be roasted to bring out the best flavor - any cook knows that. The flatbread was deplorable. The menu said it had fig chutney on it, but they used fig jam instead. JAM and CHUTNEY are not the same thing folks! The jam had been spread over the flatbread and them some small pieces of brie plopped on top and then arugula dropped on that. I think they forgot to put it in the oven as the bread was cold and chewy and not hot and crispy. The brie had not been melted and every bite was just sweet jam, not chutney. It was terrible. How can a restaurant make so many bad mistakes with one patron??? It doesn't match up with the other reviews; they may not be accurate - who knows - but I don't think I will return for another bad experience. I'll spend my money elsewhere.
