Vin compris and cheerful service made for a good time. Busy with locals enjoying their meals - fine dining this isn't....but a great example of what makes France different from the UK. The interior decor from the 50/60s now about to come back into fashion adds to the ambience!
Opposite the railway station & just off the main centre of Chalais. We'd heard of this place from several people but never visited before. The photograph of it looks nice but it looks a little less enticing in Real life - and has often looked closed to us as the outside tables seem rarely used & the plate glass doors make it difficult to see into. But nothing ventured nothing gained & we bit the bullet & tried the door.Inside is a well set out but fairly basic restaurant. Not somewhere you'd go for a romantic meal but the food, service & value were excellent.A good h'ors doeuvres selection, choice of mains & choice of starters. Less than 13 euros. Now we've been once we'll be going back again.
Decent food - not expensive and good choice of both starter and desert buffet. There is a good choice of main dishes with a dish of the day offered as well.
This restaurant feeds the local workers. It's no-nonsense French, traditional, lunch. Extensive buffet d'entrees (+ soup in the winter months), plat du jour or bavette/jambon frites, cheese and dessert...including wine...good food and great value for 12.50€. If you're looking for something 'authentic', look no further. If you're looking for something a bit more 'romantic/gourmet', keep driving!
What an excellent place for lunch. We went twice recently, and both times were impressed by the really great value - French food, simple and good. There is a buffet of entrees - at least a dozen choices, followed by a choice of 3 meats and a choice of desserts and cheese. Includes wine and coffee.
