The Mattara Hotel - Charlestown

I went to the Mattara Hotel last Saturday night for a family dinner. We were seated straight away which was really good as we had elderly with us. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating as we made a few changes on the night with our booking. The food that we all received was great and we did not wait a long time. Was a great overall experience and a family friendly venue

Husband and I popped in to the Mattara before going to the movies as we hadn't been there in years. Wow the place doesn't look like it's been renovated in 10+ years, it never had enough seating then and doesn't have enough seating now. Place was actually packed for a Saturday lunch maybe look at booking if you want a good table as my husband and I snagged a tiny table for two right next to the kitchen and walk way. Food was pretty slow to come out, and from what I could hear from people talking to the lady taking your food orders some people's meals were being totally forgotten and them waiting over a hour... I got cutlets hubby got steak and the meat was the only nice part of the meal, felt like I was more at a RSL bistro with the sides. Veggie sides were sooo boring and over cooked and my Dianne sauce was served in a plastic pot. Wasn't fazed on it 10 years ago maybe give it a go in another 10

Mattara HotelCame in for dinner on Anzac Day after going to the nearby Cinemas.Arrived about 7:30 & there was only 2 tables of people in the restaurant occupied but nearly all the rest were dirty, took a while but we finally found a clean table to sit at!Kids had the Chicken Dippers @ $9.90 with a free drink which was basically Nuggets from the freezer!Wife had the Parmesan & Herb Lamb Cutlets @ $28 with mash & Brocolini which were chewy, overcooked & atrocious! Good job!I went for the Mixed Grill which is a 200gm Rump, Lamb Cutlet, Pork Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Tomato & mushrooms @ $31! Asked for the Rump Rare but is was Med-Well.And the Lamb Cutlet was also CrucifiedBacon, Mushrooms & the Sausage were all stone Cold.Would've told the inept waitress if she had of done a meal check but she was busy leaning on the counter neglecting her dirty tables & staring into the fish tank!Horrible experience had by all & we would never return, pathetic..

As I work locally this is a great place to organise work lunches. Ordering is quick and easy and the environment is relaxed and functional. Good for kids too with a play areas for the littler ones.

Food is decent staff is getting a lot better then it used to be. Karaoke on a Saturday night though is getting really old. You will only continue to get the same people in for karaoke every week. It's horrible. Especially during footy season. A soloist or duo would go a lot further. It is definitely restricting your Saturday night trade.
