Went for lunch on day trip to Charleville-Mezieres. Set in the beautiful old Square in the centre we sat outside under umbrellas as it was hot and sunny. Enjoyed the French/Belgian lunch experience and the setting. I chose the plat du jour which was Moules Meuniere. I have to say that they were disappointing, very small moules, a bit dry and lacking in liquid sauce which was pretty flavourless. Also there was a lot of celery which I am not keen on and which rather took the flavour over. Service was patchy. We asked for water and glasses which never appeared. I can say that others chose different things and most of our party were happy with their food. I have rated the place on my food only. Did I just chose the wrong thing?
Great place to have diner. The service was good and the wines are reasonable priced. We had steak and it was cooked perfectly.
We came around 7 pm the outdoor seating is almost full but we managed to get a table. They have tables inside but the weather is nice so we prefer to sit outside. Is quite busy that time, but the service is fast. They have different choice from the menu with reasonable price.I order a ham with fries, Didier asked a lamb chops. However, it was really busy but our food serves in 10 minutes.My ham is not really the way I like, a thick fat hang on it, I remove the fat but still it didn't taste good. I got a small bowl of mustard with it which really didn't taste the way it is. Ham with mustard, sounds like weird combinationI ended up enjoying eating my salad with fries, my buddy eat the ham. He's lamb chops is good he said, I didn't taste as I don't like lambs meat. Price for two we pay 38,20€ includes half liter of wine and two soft drinks. Reasonable price for two but a simple food
Good spot (place Ducale). I had an excellent Fois Gras as starter, and really good Chateubriand. All their steaks are Charolais, plus they offer 'non-French' steaks like Wagyu, Argentinean and Angus. A bit too many fries, and not enough vegetables for my taste, and the ordered medium-rare I would call 'rare'. Minor points. Recommended.
