Room With A View Restaurant And Wine Bar

Beautiful restaurant. Great service. I had the lobster bisque for starters. It was a very good one--probably needed some more lobster. I had the Zuppa de Friutta de Mare in the garlic, olive oil, and white wine sauce. I am still thinking about how good it was. Again, we all loved this place--I would eat here every night that I wasn't eating at Havana Blue--those were the 2 best places I went to in my week on the Island.

Pro tip: Get the crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. It was a party for your mouth. It is a little pricey but you get more than enough food for the money, without feeling like you're in one of those touristy-money-traps (ahem, lookin at you, Cravin Crabs). Service was great as well; all of the servers went out of their way to help. Beautiful view also (the name doesn't lie). Overall, would do again. Unless you hate delicious things handed to you on platters by attentive, friendly people. Then I guess you could go somewhere else...

I was looking for a true fine dining experience for my girlfriend's birthday dinner, and when you look at menus across St Thomas many places have high end prices, but are they Fine Dining? I would say no as you can waltz in a tank top and set down. Which is cool, but I'd enjoy prices much lower for flops and a tank. Well I received what the doctor ordered, when we entered we were lost...I think there need be directions just from the parking lot haha. The bar downstairs had a crazy vibe with a karaoke night going on. Once inside the Maitre invited us to the bar while we waited, then the Hostess asked if we could wait another ten minutes should we desire a view of the bay. Which chose to wait a little long sipping our pineapple mai tai's which were great. When we were sat, our waiter was busy and we were given Bryan whom I'm sure was the under-study. In fine dining establishments on the mainland you don't see that often anymore, it was good to see. Although Bryan definitely ran off too soon a few times, there was no issue when I had questions. We ordered the crab crepe...it was delicious. I then ordered the lobster and my girlfriend the rum marinated pork with banana chutney...the first bite I had of hers was a little dry. But I did get a morsel from deeper in the tenderloin and it was perfectly moist...but that banana Chutney...mmmmgood. The lobster I enjoyed was decadent, but I liked hers better. I paired my dish with a Rose wine, and surprisingly it was the Woodbridge 2013 White Zinfandel...one of the smoothest wines I've had in years. Robert Mondavi had to have gone nuts when he tasted this vintage...I would say that I would pay $50 for that wine on a blind test. So choosing that for your house wine pairing with a seafood dish would be the smartest thing you could do. Excellent service, excellent food, and an amazing view.

Room with a view was probably my second favorite restaurant on the island (closely nipping at first place, though! . I wish I could remember our waiter's name, because he was THE BEST. He came by super friendly, making small talk but not annoying small talk, made great recommendations. What made us love him so much, though, we ordered ravioli to start. Not going to lie, my stomach was so excited for the carbs. He came by though, and told us he had to be honest and that there was only one plate left and he gave it to a little girl instead. He was so honest and so sweet and suggested a replacement and also comped us for our appetizer. He absolutely did not need to do that but the fact that we was so transparent was really amazing, such great service! I ordered the lasagna, and my husband ordered some sort of chicken. Both tasted amazing. The portions are decently sized and the prices are definitely reasonable in comparison to everything else in St. Thomas. My only complaint (and honestly, it's not really even a complaint is the restaurant could use an update. It's pretty hidden and really outdated. Sort of reminds me of an old banquet hall with weird seat covers. Obviously, the views are great *hence the name* so I kind of overlooked any small decor flubs.

The place is very hyped up in St. Thomas. Maybe it's relatively one of the best restaurants on the island but for someone who's lived in NY and D.C. it isn't. I ordered the surf turf and I liked it fine but the lobster was covered in thick creamy sauce. In general, whenever you taste the sauce more than the meat you're eating, you shouldn't be paying $50 for an entree. Honestly, if you're willing to pay that kind of money for a dinner, go to Oceana. Similar prices but there's a tremendous difference in the quality of food. Two different categories. The filet mignon and the view/service were good, however.
