le Chalet - Chateau-D'Oex

A great traditional Swiss experience! Tasty local food made with a cheese which is made in front of your eyes! Great for kids and those interested in the traditional cheese making process! Very welcoming and lots to see including a model railway upstairs and...a cheese shop! Fab a must visit if in the area!

Took the very last train of the seasonal Cheese Train from Montreux, which includes lunch at Le Chalet. This cozy little chalet restaurant has a huge copper vat of cheese cooking over a fire as the cheese chef is stirring and stirring over that open...fire. There is a whole ritual for all the restaurant to see, all the while the band is playing regional folk music. The cheese fondue is to die for very very good. The wine was good too! For dessert we had the decadent meringue with double cream. A walk through town will make you feel a bit better before getting back on the train back to Montreux.

It is a traditional Swiss restaurant. prices good. terrace overwinter. it is near gstaad and Schönried. it belongs to the francais canton.

Really interesting, watching the local cheese made and then a selection of main courses all made with the local cheese, followed by an excellent meringue and double cream desert. enjoys all the unhurried meall. wants to visit definatley again at my next visit.

Recommend their fondue forestiere (mushroom). service is good and eating excellent. the meringue and the double cream dessert is definitely worth a try.
