The Fox & Raven - Chelmsford

I had some nice food here, but it's a tad unconsistent whether it's okay or really excellent. Service can be slow.

The food is average and the menu is lacking in choice. But it is a nice atmosphere to eat in. Not a good place for having a drink with friends. Too much of the seating is settees and armchairs which ensure you have to talk a little too loud for a quiet conversation.

We booked a table for 8 people for Sunday lunch at 1pm. After ordering drinks at the table, we then ordered starters and mains. The starters arrived at 2pm. This seems an unreasonably long time to wait. Couldn’t fault the food or the waiting staff but slow service will make me consider whether to return or not.

Did a last minute booking and cant fault them at all. Food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Our waiter James was attentive but not intrusive. Would definately be returning

I was disappointed by the dry Yorkshire and cold meat, and the service was slow (but we were warned); otherwise a comfortable, cosy and relaxing Sunday Lunch.
