Firstly, our order was taken down incorrectly (we think it may have been a language problem) so 2 out of 6 of us had to wait an extra 5 10 minutes for our main course. Secondly, the chef appears to be a little heavy handed with the garlic none of us expected garlic at all in a cheese souffle. Finally, having ordered a bottle of wine we asked for another to be put on ice and the waitress brought us a different wine, same grape, thinking that the label had just been changed! Having said all this the waiting staff were pleasant, apologetic and eager to compensate, but more training for them would be of benefit.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Porch House. The food was really tasty but what made it special was the great staff, they made a big effort and seemed lovely people
A great Sunday lunch an excellent and well presented venue, perfect service what more could you want.
We always look forward to visiting The Porch House. The cheese souffle is consistently superb and makes a great starter (and is sufficient to share if you are intending to have three courses). On this occasion we were disappointed that the fish pie had been taken off the menu, particularly as the fish cakes, which we chose as an alternative, were surprisingly poor mainly potato and almost no fish. Other than that, we would visit again but will check out the menu in advance as it is a little limited if you are a non meat eater.
Great experience. Had gluten free sandwiches as well (but not listed on the menu). Cool experience at the oldest inn in England. Definitely book reservation in advance because it seemed they had to turn away some walk ins for Saturday lunch b/c at capacity.
