There was fish annd chips, curry, gammon or mushroom risotto , then a few burgers . I ended up having a burger which came with very underdone fries one slice of tomato a small baby gem lettuce leaf and some red onion cheese etc were to be purchased as an extra. There was a small pot of coleslaw which apparently was homemade but just lacked any flavour I had a cheese board which did have homemade crackers on which were very nice 3 tiny pieces of cheese and a huge bunch of grapes and tiny strips of celery it was ok but nothing special, I’d had a cheese board at another hotel the night before which was cheaper but contained 5 cheeses bara brith walnut , dried fruit I think I was spoilt .i did in form the hotel and gave feedback on the very boring menu
My husband surprised me for our 20th Anniversary, we married at the castle. Staff assumed we were there for afternoon tea, never the intention. Not geared up for the lunch menu. Both ordered the Wagyu burger, no brioche bun for me. I was presented with a mass produced, greasy, flavourless, rubberised burger and a few fries. No salad, no truffle mayo as stated on the menu. It was awful. The brioche bun was a floury white bap! We had to request the salad, which was two pieces of lettuce, a slice of tomato and a slice of onion. Basic condiments also had to be requested. £18-50 was extortionate for what was presented. My husband said it was the worst burger he had ever had. No passing mention of our return visit. (It had been stressed in the comments when booked). It was not busy. The cost of one burger was removed from our bill. The staff were polite. Consideration had been given to booking an overnight stay. I am so glad he didn't. A very disappointing experience.
What a fab experience. Afternoon tea at Peckforton Castle in Tarporley. Received as a Christmas gift and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived at the castle , it’s so pretty, and walked through to a beautifully kept courtyard. We were directed to the restaurant where Clair took charge and arranged our meal. She was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There was a lovely selection of sandwiches, a perfect selection of cakes the Bakewell slices were stunning, and a lovely light scone. The coffee we don’t drink tea haha, was lovely and hot, thank you. The setting was stunning and we had a lovely time. I can thoroughly recommend this. We will be back x
I had booked Festive Afternoon Tea for my mum and sister and felt overwhelmingly disappointed with the ambiance, service and the food. We had driven a considerable distance for this festive treat and apart from the beautiful tree in the grounds the location did not live up to the festive spirit I had expected and hoped my family would enjoy. The standout for the food were the scones, which were delicious and fresh, the mince pie was nice too but the other items were mediocre to poor. As a non meat eater and advised them of that and getting a separate plate I was served a turkey and cranberry sandwich which was not great, at least it wasn’t an allergy issue. I definitely would not recommend the festive afternoon tea at Peckforton Castle to any of my family and friends.
