With smaller class sizes compared to other schools, students receive more personalized attention. However, the standout feature of this school is the teacher, Raat. She is a passionate and knowledgeable instructor who pays special attention to ingredients. The course starts with a trip to the market to select fresh ingredients, followed by a theoretical lesson and concludes with a hands-on cooking class where students get to taste the dishes they have prepared. The half-day course is priced between 650 and 800 Bhats and can be reserved at the Tulip Green House.
When in northern Thailand, one must remember that this is where Thai food reigns supreme, making Chiang Mai the probable gastronomic capital! It is highly recommended to spend a day or two immersing yourself in Thai cuisine in this city, as there are numerous cooking schools to choose from. We personally recommend the Orchid Thai Cooking School, where you will learn to shop for ingredients, as well as cut and prepare them before heading to the kitchen. Classes are kept small, with only 6 people per group, and are conducted in English. It is truly amazing to see how we get to enjoy all the dishes we create, as we prepare six meals a day (recipe book included). The best part is that at the end of the day, we get to sit down and enjoy all the delicious food we have made - it is a true delight!
Thai Orchid cooking school has only been open for 1 year and that is an advantage as the classes have fewer students compared to other schools. However, the best thing about this school is, without a doubt, the teacher. Raat is a woman dedicated to cooking and teaching, starting from the ingredients, to those who pay special attention. The course begins with a visit to the market to choose the raw materials, continues with a theoretical class, and ends with a practical class and subsequent tasting of the dishes cooked by oneself.
