They have delicious butter crust bread, Swedish Rye with or without caraway seeds. They usually have a good selection of sweet rolls, coffee cake, etc. You have butter cookies that they have made since I was young enough to get a free one when I get in the store, ice sugar cookies that were in both Cubs and White Sox themes on Saturday morning. They had cake slices, including my mother's favorite German chocolate cake and several other species. You can order a cake there. It's a little business with a pretty good choice, but if there's something you can call and they'll keep it for you. I don't get there as many times as I used to because I'm living in town now. But when my mother goes, I always have to go with her, just like when I was a kid. It is worth a short ride.
I'm disappointed that I didn't have the same experience as the other reviewers. I bought a cake for my husband's birthday. It was tasteless and the consistency was out. It tasted like flour and sugar, no vanilla or butter taste at all. I had boxcake that was more tasteful. I guess it's for those with simpler palates.
I had the cinnamon donut, pretty good. My husband had the jelly filled donut, better than good. Not too friendly staff.
Love their carrot cakeWould easily give 5 stars if it didn't have so many raisins. Texture and frosting are particularly good
Old time neighborhood favorite? The BEST in the South Suburbs of Chicago Heights.
