Even better! Our group enjoyed a wine tasting, noshed on tasty snacks and sipped this stunner of a champagne on a bright, Sunday afternoon.
I used to live nearby, for a while, and I 've come here before, but I never wrote a review until now. I am not sure why! It 's certainly somewhere I 'd recommend going. We had spent too long at dinner for my friend 's birthday, so we were very late to our reservation, but they were gracious about it and very welcoming. I am happy to report that, even on a Saturday night, although it 's busy, the tables are spaced out and, even better, it 's not too loud to hear other people! This is rare and appreciated. (Not to drive people to their competitor, but instead: If you want a great doubleheader with another posh yet chill place, go half a block east to the Berkshire Room before or after! Also, our table had a cool backlit design, which is always fun to stare at :P It was definitely one of those places where we had more than one server/person taking care of our table (being vague because one of them seemed like a manager of some sort, based on other interactions with tables? . The three of us decided on the only champagne bottle under $100. I wish there were more options in that sense. Even so, we made a great choice, since it was delicious. I am not an expert on champagne, but even the least expensive (not gonna say cheapest here option was high quality. There was a bit of a snafu. Earlier on, I ordered a sparkling water in addition to the champagne. It 's good to hydrate, but I am also obsessed with sparkling water and always have been. The waitress (still not sure of everyone 's role haha never brought it! After 20 25 minutes, I tried to flag her down but it was impossible. I hate trying to get someone 's attention when they are right there but don 't see me. She was talking to someone else working there, and I completely understand that people talk to coworkers and enjoy their job this way I don 't begrudge them for that. But I couldn 't get her attention in any way! It was frustrating, to say the least. I was thirsty, and honestly, the still water tasted a bit chlorinated and weird. Anyway, after a while of zero staff making eye contact or getting near our table, the bartender walked over and took my sparkling water order. She shouldn 't have had to do that, and I felt bad she had to leave her post. Even so, the service was altogether great (and the woman who forgot my order was still very sweet! . I have to give special mention to how our waiter/maybe manager?! insisted on giving our table caviar on the house. This is never a low cost item, so we were very pleasantly surprised. Now, my friend doesn 't like fish very much, but she was so surprised by the offer that she basically walked into a tentative yes! I 'd only had it once before and was not a huge fan but would try again. He brought out three servings on mother of pearl spoons, and we all tried it! My friend didn 't like it too much but liked it more than she thought she would. I liked it more than when I tried it once before, and our friend who enjoys the taste usually did so here too. It was a lovely surprise! Looks like this venue that 's been here for a while still has tricks up its sleeve.
Plans. We all make them, right? What we plan to do, when we plan to do it, etc. (Speaking of plans, some have said that if you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans. Well whenever we visit Chicago one place that we always plan to visit is Pops for Champagne. Amongst all of our travels I can 't recall discovering a place quite like it. The name pretty much says it all (I mean how could anyone accuse them of false or misleading advertising? . What you see is what you get here. If you 're looking for a menu featuring page after page of unique bubbly options, then cast your gaze no further. Not nearly limited to only the Champagne region of France, here you can sample the bubbly options produced from almost every continent around the globe (i.e., Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, and sparkling wine . The ice buckets permanently attached to the window tables make conversations (and people watching a seamless part of your evening. Although there was no live music during this visit, we have enjoyed that here on past occasions. Please be careful not to typecast Pops as merely a place for the occasional celebration. The vibe here lends itself well to any occasion when you want to take your Chicago outing to an entirely new level. If a window seat is important to you (and it should be , then reservations are recommended. And that 's...Henry 's Take. #chicagopops
Great place to relax and have a ice cold glass of champagne. Love everything about it. Amazing list of wines and champagne. Doesn't get better than this in Chicago for a nice mid day cocktail.
I saw this place and HAD to add it to my visit list. It was only a couple blocks from the hotel as well so it was only a short, brisk walk away. I love that hey had such a great selection of champagne. Which would make sense since champagne is in the name. They had a nice small finger food menu that ranged from popcorn to caviar. Great spot for a great glass of champagne. Cheers!
