Abundant dark wood and impeccable bar area, the taps shine and welcomes diners to try a pull or two. Employees are friendly and very approachable, from booking to service, Moody Tongue staff is impeccable. We reserved a table in the bar area and the space has a rustic, modern, yet elegant feel. Wood tones and metal all around reminds you that you are after-all dining at a brewery. Beer is front and center throughout the menu, tonight we started with flights of fruit and stouts. Three 4oz pours of liquid deliciousness. We indulged in appetizers of Maine Diver Scallops and Hokkaido Uni French Toast. We cannot rave enough about the explosion of texture and flavor in both, and will dream of the whipped Uni. A Black truffle pilsner helped wash down starters and the pacing for entree was spot on. Summer IPA and Weiss, joined our meal. Crispy whole market fish featured a striped bass, which filleted perfectly on plate. Preparation was not oily and packed flavor with cilantro, mint and lobster mayo. Moody Tongue's well deserved 2 Michelin Stars, shine through the comfort, care and flavors. Drafts are available to go in growlers as well as limited bottle selections. Highly recommend reservations through Resy as we look forward to booking our return tasting in Moody Tongue Brewing's Dining Room.
From a very moody foodie, this place is everything! I have no complaints about them or anything they offered but you know how smaller portions on beer gut can be. You want to order everything but at this price point, most of us can’t. I had 3 beers, an additional flight of 3, the crudo, the ibérico Presa, and the pana cotta and my Gah, it was so but I have to call it quits and pick up some Chick Fil A for my fat because I can still eat. I’ve been to over 40 breweries across the country and this is easily the most original with an insane food menu I’ve ever been to. Impressed is an understatement. So much I had to ask the hostess if there was a dress code when I walked in coming from work. Fancy but real down to Earth and it’s the full experience especially coming in early with everyone’s attention.
My husband and I love exploring different foodie places so when we first heard of this moody tongue brewery and it receiving two Michelin stars, we were a bit intrigued. Michelin does seem quite snobby and they’ve snubbed quite a few amazing places in Chicago, so it seemed very surprising to us for them to recognize a brewery. We understand why after our first visit with the tasting menu. The food was both creative and amazingly delicious (which doesn’t always go hand in hand). The beer pairing is perfect and in my opinion, is way better than your standard wine pairing you get at other places (I am a bit biased and am not a wine expert). Service is very friendly, but is environment is far more laidback than some other places. My only complaint with the place is the restrooms and I’m semi convinced this must the only reason this place doesn’t get three stars. There’s usually a stall out of order and sometimes it shows signs of some irresponsible users… We’ve been here 4 times now and it’s our new favorite place! We plan on coming for each season to see what’s new!
This was one of the most consistently fantastic meals I've ever had. Every course delivered. We went to the bar, which is just a bar and several dining tables. Unless you want the full experience, this is your stop for a la carte. We got the ahi tuna crudo (so many flavors that all went together), artichoke agnolotti (filling, tastes of spring), crescent duck breast (so tender), and iberico presa (one of the finer cuts of iberico and I honestly didn't even need any of the extra things in the picture, I could just eat the meat by itself). Not usually one for dessert but since the meal was great so far, we got the buttermilk panna cotta. Worth it. I don't know beers but the honey kolsch was a great pairing. The servers were helpful and so knowledgeable. You can tell they know the menu and the beers. Already trying to make my next reservation.
We went to the 15 course tasting menu in the dining room; it was probably the best meal of my life. The only disappointment is that I may never be able to revisit some of the entrees and craft beer which were both exquisite. Every course paired perfectly with the beer served along with it. Staff was extremely professional and well trained. I really enjoyed the design of the restaurant as well. Though very difficult to pick favorites the standouts for my pallet included: HOKKAIDO SEA URCHIN HUDSON VALLEY FOIE GRAS CAKE- the beer pairing was absolutely perfect for this dish! ALASKAN HALIBUT- the best cooked halibut I have ever had WESTHOLME WAGYU- I've never had such flavorful beef, truly art for the mouth. DARK CHOCOLATE NAMELAKA- the dessert of my dreams! Highly recommend every Chicagoan and guest strive for reservations. It is well worth the cost and stop for a true fine dining experience !
