Thanks for carrying the vegan/vegetarian torch for us in the north!! Wide variety of vegan favorites, excellent pancakes, tofu scramble, tamales, and gluten-free scones. Wonderful neighborhood hangout! Meat options for our carnivorous friends.
I first tried their vegan bean and vegetable tamales at a Farmer's Market. I was very excited until my first bite. It was just bland, no flavor. I added the red hot sauce, which had no flavor either so that didn't help. I gave it a second chance two days later and ordered the enchilada suiza dish with seitan and an avocado taco. The meal was not accompanied with any sauce, so the taco was just ok...and dry. The enchilada had some decent flavor, but when I first opened the container, color me surprised to see unmelted vegan cheese. The meal was just incomplete. The rice and beans had good flavor but the rice was a bit dry. I really wanted to like this place.
I had a great first experience here! They were about to close and still whipped up a vegan sweet potato burger on the most delicious vegan ciabatta bread! YUM! It looks like they had a lot of other great options and grab and go stuff too. I'll be back for sure.
This place legit has the greatest tamales I have ever had I would go to them at the Park Ridge Farmers Market but now I just go to their location right off of Lawrence it's called Vegetarian Express but the guy said supposedly they're going to change name to Tamale Express. If you enjoy tamales I promise you you'll love this place. Chicken molé mmmm muy bueno.
