Drinks and food were great. Not one complaint from anyone. Highly recommend coming here if you are in the area. Definitely a hidden gem of the neighborhood.
I am fond of White Oak, which is a nice, local eatery. The food is always flavorsome. But you never quite no what you are going to get. I’ve eaten there four times now, and often items are off, even regular, much-loved staples. One time the Spag Bol was not available as the chef had decided he had not put enough meat in the sauce, etc. And this last time, for which this review is for, was a regular Friday lunchtime, when I wanted a quick bite to eat. My wife and I were given the brunch menu! I assumed it was a mistake, but was told that was what the owner had wanted to do that day! Well, great, but I wasn’t in the mood for egg-based brunches at 130 on a working day, and I would not have gone if I had known that was what would be on offer. I had the chilaquiles and they were tasty enough... but it was not what I had gone for or wanted. So I like White Oak, but, as I say, you just never quite know....!
Great drinks, super friendly service. I think the meat dishes were good; the veg were a little off (undercooked or bland). Would try it again.
The service, the ambiance, and noise level and the general physical aspects were good or better, as were the appetizers and the salad. However, the entrée was not good. The hanger steak that I had was tough and full of gristle, making it difficult to cut or to chew.
Quiet and cozy perfect for a winter night with an old friend. Food was very tasty my fish a tiny bit overcooked. Dessert was scrumptious. Not inexpensive for a neighborhood night out, but overall such a good experience.
