La Maison Rouge - Chinon

Fabulous service, great atmosphere and superb food and wine. The building is ancient and historic too. We will be back for many more meals here.

I tried to make a phone reservation to your restaurant last week. I was not in town, but in Amboise. I left two messages, both unanswered . Come reservation time, I got inside and spoke to two persons, both of whom told me there was no reservation made. One of them was curt, verging on impolite. She told me phone reservation were not possible and anyway they were not there at the time I called. Then why do you give your phone number? I asked. You should have come here in person, she told me. What was the point, since you just told me you were not here? I insisted. She turned on her heels and waved a dismissive hand. This is no way to treat a (would-be) customer. Less than 100 yards away, La Table de Jeanne provides excellent service and food, with friendly staff and an excellent cook. True, The Maison Rouge is a wonderful house, but some of the staff need to learn how to behave. Thumb down for them.

We had to wait long for the food and the quality was also very average. Little fantasy: steak haché, french fries. Not again! Staff were friendly when we arrived but couldn’t cope with the amount of guests and got stressed and grumpy

Wonderful historic building and welcoming friendly staff. Food and wine choice excellent.Really enjoyed my choices, Salmon, Duck Breast and followed by the most delicious selection of goat cheese. Great value too, Charming service.

We selected this restuarant for location and appeal. The food was delicious and service very good. Entree and main was more than ample to fulfill. The black pudding entree was different but excellent. Lamb shank and wine very good. Highly recommend and it's not as busy as the main square.
