With so many Chinese restaurants in this area it is easy to pick one, but you never know how it is going to go. This was found to be great. A very busy, very large restaurant opens up when you enter. It is across 2 floors with extra seating on a higher floor I was told as an overflow if required. We were seated on the 1st floor in a great table overlooking downstairs and the restaurant behind us. It is very nicely decorated, colourful and typical of an older style. We ordered 4 x soups as our starters which were lovely, the same quality really as anywhere else. Hot and tasty, they were 3 x chicken and sweetcorn and a crab and sweetcorn, delicious. Mains arrived promptly with larger than usual portions of egg fried rice easy enough for 2 people in 1 portion of rice if you visit ........the varying dishes of chicken with ginger and green pepper x 2, beef in black bean sauce and a chicken sweet and sour we found all quite nice. All 4 dishes had an abundance of meat and vegetables. ample indeed, nothing spared on quantity. Drinks were small bottles of beer which is a tad disappointing, and the wine a bit warm so we asked for ice. Not a brilliant drinks service. Service, we found very good and quick. We were not hurried at all, however we did notice how efficient the staff were at turning tables around us once customers had left. Very quick and very interesting to see. We were there in the middle of matinee West End shows and evening shows so it was extremely busy The bill was definitely reasonable for Gerrard Street, the heart of Chinatown. All in all a good choice.
After an evening in the theatre we decided to go for a chinese meal ,There is lots of restaurants in China town so we picked this one ...What A Mistake . The staff attitude is terrible when I said that the plates were cold I got a disgruntled reply stating we serve our food on plates at room temperature when the food arrived it was Bland Tasteless and luke warm this too was served on cold plates the rice was also poor and tepid . I have eaten at a lot of chinese retaurants and have in the past enjoyed some exceptional and well cooked food this was Not one of them . its also expensive for the quality and standard I would have expected .
We came here for evening meal on our last night in London. It was really busy but they managed to find us a table as the restaurant is huge. There are loads of choices on the menu but there is a service charge of a whopping 12.5%. We had spring rolls, satay chicken and prawn crackers to start, all lovely. I had the chicken with ginger and spring onion and my husband had szechuan. You couldn't fault mine but whilst nice, his wasn't spicy at all, almost just tasted of sweet and sour. Absolutely loads of chicken in both dishes. The toilets weren't that clean and randomly there was a feather boa in the cubicle I went in! The food was nice and the meal prices were reasonable however the service charge is extortionate the service given doesn't warrant the amount charged.
Service was quick and the food average. Starters ok but mains very bland, fried rice looked anemic. Gin and tonic was actually gin and lemonade but they argued the point. Biggest shock was when we got the bill. So expensive for what we got. Plenty more places to try so avoid this one
