Even though the restaurant wasn't full, it appeared that orders placed through food apps were given priority. The staff only offered a brief apology for the long wait. The food was decent, but definitely not worth waiting that amount of time for.
I married to a Chinese family and we cook at home all the time. I know and love Chinese cuisine. We ordered 2 power supplies. Sweet and acidic fish was pretty good. It was a generous serving, fish was fresh, sauce had a beautiful balance of... flavors with many pineapples, capsicum, etc. We also ordered pork **** in brown sauce. Either the chef cooks without heart or doesn't know how to cook it. Save yourself and don't order it. There are some different ways to cook, depending on which part of China comes the recipe, but which recipe, pork **** in brown sauce is a local dish. The sauce should burst with taste, so delicious you want to drink it like a soup. It should have ginger, spring onion, star anise, garlic, cinnamon, cooking wine, soy sauce. The brown sauce in this restaurant had NONE of these ingredients. It looked out and tasted like someone just poured the pig of themselves into a pot boiling water for a few hours, and then poured into a bowl and served. No taste. Nothing. All you could taste and smell was pork that was just over the previous use date. Really disgusting. No, we didn't complain. Why should I have an argument if I want to relax and enjoy? And if the cook doesn't know how to cook, why should I teach? Even the food took too long to come to the table. We spent over $80 for 2 people on essentially two nets and a simple entry. It doesn't matter to pay 40 for a meal if it's good, but it wasn't really. Very disappointed and we will not be back.
We have heard so much about Ming Court since its new Malaysian owners, man and woman, taken over in December 2020. We had dinner there on Friday 19 February and had called a few days earlier to order our food. We had one of... the best steamed chicken, tofu hotpot, sweet acid pigs and sizzling cantonese beef. The portions were large and decent and much value for money. Service was very good and the waitresses were attentive and very friendly. At the end of our meal the owner came out to say hello and asked if everything was okay. Well done and contraintulations Jonathan and Ch'nng. We will definitely return.
If you're searching for an Asian restaurant that caters to those who are new to Asian cuisine, then this is the spot for you. The service was very slow, the decor was reminiscent of an 80s carpet catalogue, and the fish dishes seemed to be frozen. The Chicken Chilli dish was decent, but the fried rice was questionable. Gordon Ramsay would not be impressed.
This is not Hobart’s answer to Melbourne’s Bamboo House. It sits unthreatened in the depths of Lower Sandy Bay and survives probably because it is what it is. Comfortable like a pair of old slippers. “Traditional” Australian Chinese from the 1970’s. Nothing unpleasant though although...the tiny wine glasses are a challenge. Need upsizing for credibility! Very friendly and helpful service and the menu was fine in range. BYO was a bonus as their modest wine only covered the lower end of the spectrum. Food was fine, if nothing to write home about. Overall, a suburban restaurant that could do with a revamp in all categories except the wait staff. 5/5 for her.
