Rang in advance & were told that bookings are only taken for 6 or more but a wait for a table would only usually be necessary after 7 when it gets busy. This advice was spot on. We wanted to try the sharing platter for 2 and were pre-warned about the size so asked our servers advice. We were 3 hungry adults (son is 15 so 'nuff said) & we were advised that the platter for 2 with the 2 small sides on offer would be plenty & that the food comes out quickly so we could order more during our meal if necessary. Was impressed with the fact that she was more interested in us getting what we needed rather than selling more food. It was, in fact, more than enough. This was some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten & believe me I've eaten a lot. The pulled pork & brisket were the best I've ever had, They melted like butter. Unlike a lot of places they were served naked, not smothered in over sweet sauce so you could add as much as you wanted & the sauces were also delicious. As it was our first time here we were given a sample of all 3 sauces & all were great but smokey BBQ all day long for me. The slaw, potato salad & baked feta were also awesome. On our second night we visited the Gatehouse Grill, big mistake, but lesson learned we returned to Hop n Hog for our last night. We shared the appy platter for starters so we could sample the smoked duck & salmon. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it. I wish I'd not ordered it to share. We then had the 'any 2 meat' combo (pulled pork & brisket of course) & the pile of pork rivalled some of the smaller Rocky Mountains. I hope I get the opportunity to visit here again, it's one of those meals you always remember & all future BBQ & smoked meat experiences will be compared to this one from now on. The service was also exceptional, our server even remembered our drinks order from 2 nights earlier.
The Hop n Hog has a great menu based around mains and sharing plates. The portions are big so you will not be disappointed after a long day of hiking.I had the salmon sharer (delicious) and my friends devoured the ribs. The deserts were also a hit (if you can manage one). There is a great variety of beers on tap. If choosing your drink proves tricky, go for the 8 beer tasting option.
Great restaurant if you love meat! Must eat here during your stay in Clearwater. We spent two nights at the Canadian Bear Guesthouse and had dinner here on both nights as the food was amazing!
Rind, black, huh and fish - refined speisen a la barbecue. it is original, if you love this type of food preparation. at the reception you will receive personally from the chef. this places each of its guests and gives the first information. the service is friendly. it goes fast - after an hour you'll be out.
We loved it, good service and excellent food! Our teens enjoyed it too. Busy restaurant but nice atmosphere.
