One of our friends, also a seasonal camper, raised some safety and modesty concerns about the campground's tractor-pulled picnic table to the owner of Skip-a-way. In response, she was dismissed; the owner stated he wouldn't entertain complaints from her since he had received numerous complaints about her “group.” Shortly after, he arrived at the picnic table ride on his side-by-side with a grin and mentioned he had complaints about people (the tractor driver) throwing beer cans onto campers' lawns. After a brief discussion, they felt it best to apologize to the camper who had made the complaint. However, instead of resolving the issue, the owner opted to confront the campsite that had complained, accusing the camper of lying and demanding to know who was flashing people during the ride—despite having claimed he had asked everyone on the ride if anyone had flashed anyone and receiving denials. The strange part is, let’s call him Doug, never actually asked anyone about the flashing; I was on that ride too, and he only inquired about the beer cans. Doug exacerbated the situation rather than defusing it; he was an instigator. Things escalated to the point where he called the sheriff’s department to the campground and evicted our friend—the one who had made the complaint—for being “disrespectful” to him. Meanwhile, Doug's wife, whom we’ll refer to as Courtney, targeted our neighbors (also friends of mine), accusing them of allowing their child to climb an inflatable slide the wrong way, along with listing every other alleged misdeed their children had committed over the summer. Courtney came in with accusations and was loud, and I tried to stay out of it while listening from my camper. Later that night, she falsely claimed that one camper had attempted to physically assault her, leading to that camper's eviction as well. Two families were evicted that night, which was heartbreaking and a clear sign of the poor management at Skip-a-way campground. Since that incident, I’ve noticed a few positive reviews on this site praising the campground and its staff, which I urge readers to take with a grain of salt, as many of those reviewers are personal friends of the owners and may be biased. Don’t be fooled by the sweet talk; it’s just a smokescreen to counteract the negative attention they've received this summer. I’ve kept this information to myself since that night for fear of being evicted myself, as Doug indicated I would be next. Now that we’ve officially moved out and collected all of our belongings, I feel safe sharing our story. If you choose to camp here, I hope your experience is different from ours, and perhaps this will be a learning opportunity for Doug and Courtney. I genuinely hope that’s the case, but I remain skeptical.
