Sichuan Hot Pot Jiǔ Zhài Gōu Huǒ Guō Chuān Cài

My personal guideline for Asian cuisine is that it's usually great when the service is just okay and the restaurant itself doesn’t appear overly fancy. At this place, all the food we ordered was quite delicious. Although the ambiance wasn't impressive and we had to wait about 20 minutes after finishing our meals to get the check—likely because the waitstaff were on their break—I still found the overall experience satisfying. I would have given this restaurant a five-star rating, but I discovered a dead bee in my leftover braised pork, which is definitely an issue that needs addressing. I removed the bee and continued to enjoy the dish, and I plan to return for more because the chili chicken and squid were really good.

I'm giving this place 2 stars because I've had some positive experiences in the past, but my last two visits were disappointing, and I'm unsure what has changed. A few days ago, I ordered from here and ended up with severe food poisoning that I'm still recovering from. I could smell the spoiled food halfway through my meal, so I stopped eating, but by then, it was too late. It's pretty clear when green beans are undercooked and starting to go bad, so I'm really let down since I used to enjoy getting food from here. They offer a variety of authentic dishes that haven't been Americanized, and I will miss that.

The food was outstanding, and the tea was delightful. The service was excellent. I can't wait to return and explore more exotic dishes!

The food was average, I'd give it a 5 out of 10. It wasn't bad, but a lot of the dishes seemed stale or not very fresh. As for the service, my girlfriend and I—I'm an African American man and she's a mixed-race woman who appears more Caucasian—felt quite uncomfortable when we walked in. Throughout our meal, it felt like we were being scrutinized and judged, not only by the waitstaff but also by some of the Asian diners. There were even instances where they laughed and whispered to each other. I suggest checking out other reviews before deciding to visit!
