My wife and I love this restaurant. While we live in New Hampshire, over the last decade we have often visited the Closter area because our daughter lives nearby. When in New Jersey, we go to Buon Gusto at least once per week, and sometimes twice, because the food is various, well prepared, and very reasonably priced. The owners are gracious, friendly, competent, and attentive. They have an extensive menu of Italian staples and always an equally extensive selection of specials. Moreover, they are always ready to accommodate dietary restrictions in preparing dishes, and I have several. The veal marsala or veal Milanese are my wife's favorites, and I often order the pasta primavera or chicken Romano, They always have several seafood selections, which the owner personally selects at the fish market every morning. The BYOB is an extra benefit that allows drinking our favorite wines without the markup of the typical restaurant in New Hampshire and without a corkage fee. If you are in the Closter area and love good food, you must try Buon Gusto!
We have been steady patrons of Buon Gusto, mainly in Irvington NY which is now closed and now their flagship and long standing restaurant in Closter. Simply put, I have never been to an Italian restaurant where the preparation, quality of food, service, and warmth has rivaled this gem. Pricing is very reasonable, a byob without a corkage charge, preparation creative and wonderful. You simply have to try it. Reservations are highly recommended. Say hello to Joe when you arrive.
Enjoy a nice meal, with your favorite wine. I enjoyed the Zuppa di Pesce. I was good and had the vegetable instead of pasta. Others in had a veal and a chicken dish, all prepared in very delicious sauces.
When we want very good Italian comfort food in Closter, we go to Rudy’s which is a pizzeria and more with a liquor restaurant. However, when we want finer dining, we go just down the road to Buon Gusto which is a BYOB restaurant. Buon Guesto is the smaller of the two restaurants and can fill up quickly on weekends but worth a wait. It does now take reservations unlike in the past. And the service can be a little slow in spots. But the food is truly excellent. We have never had a mediocre meal there. If your schedule is flexible, we suggest their early bird special: the first hour they are open every day, they offer 50% off the second entree. Even without the discount, the menu prices are reasonable. All in all, a nice place to have a very good meal.
